162!

Is that the UK record??

Im sorry, but I think you deserve all you get. Im not innocent myself, 94 on the motorway(average) and 3 points, but 162 mph is VERY fast, what would have happend if someone had pulled out in fron of you, or your tyre blew out etc etc etc(granted I dont know the full circumstance of it) - but what did you expect to get at that speed? not just a few points surely?

AP

oops is this a wind up, oh well I ll leave it alone..........

162 mph in a P1 17 January 2003 07:39 PM

yes look at the user name got banned today for this offence. So who thinks it is unfair to ban me for this?????????

Claudius 17 January 2003 07:40 PM

I do. :)

Sheepsplitter 17 January 2003 07:41 PM

Sorry to hear that.
I guess we all wind it up now and again, sometimes we get caught.
How longs the ban for?

Pauleds 17 January 2003 07:43 PM

Surprised you didn't go to prison.

codhead 17 January 2003 07:45 PM

162!! Thats pretty selfish. ;)

162 mph in a P1 17 January 2003 07:45 PM

guess how long the bans for???????????? put it this way i got fined £1800

162 mph in a P1 17 January 2003 07:46 PM

codhead why was it selfish??

Sheepsplitter 17 January 2003 07:46 PM

Well he didn't say he wasn't sent to prison, he just said he'd been banned.
Maybe he posted from the prison Cybercafe!
www.hmp.gov perhaps?

R.B 17 January 2003 07:49 PM

It makes me laugh because if your p1 was stolen and it was caught doing 162 mph the person driving it they would of got a slap on his wrist and £40 fine.

Claudius 17 January 2003 07:50 PM

What's the problem with going 162 mph on the motorway (other than mpg)?

162 mph in a P1 17 January 2003 07:57 PM

Lets say the ban was one more than 3 and one less than 5. Claim their makin an example of me. S**t why me the dirty B**T***S. u right min if they had nicked it and done that would have got maybe 6 months and what i got is like a f*****g life sentance.

rb5_336 17 January 2003 08:00 PM

oops, what a bummer.

Ive been caught doing 95 and got off with 3 points, was really lucky coz a few minutes earlier was well over a hundred

Also did 155 in my M3 a few years ago and never got anything

Then last night, got flashed, so i reckon another 3 points on their way :-(

Sheepsplitter 17 January 2003 08:01 PM

R.B: Your not wrong. In 1992 I got done in court for a 76 in a 60 and they did me for a 6 points, £600 means tested fine + £250 costs, they said they wanted to make an example out of me because they didn't want 'fast cars' in their area.
I was really peed of because prior to my case I'd sat through one in which a 76year old had been beaten up for her purse (which contained £3) and the guy who did it got 30 hours community service, which they suspended provided he didn't go before the court again for 12months!!

There is no such thing as justice in this country.

codhead 17 January 2003 08:10 PM

How would you have reacted to a rear tyre blow out at 120+MPH??

Sheepsplitter 17 January 2003 08:15 PM

codhead: Are 120MPH rear blowouts common?
Do you mean once you get past 119mph to take care?
Maybe that's why the jap market imports only do 112mph!

I will try to make sure I only drive around at <119mph and >=121mph in future.

But seriously blowouts can occur at any speed and I've seen some pretty horrific results at quite low speed. Chances are that at higher speed at least you would keep going in a straight line.

Neil Smalley 17 January 2003 08:16 PM

That really sucks. Can you not appeal on the grounds of financial hardship? Alternativley go to a national newspaper and point out the inconsistancies in the system

I thought the Vmax of a P1 was 155. 162 seems too high for the capability of the car.

Not much I can say except to try and appeal. Yes 160Mph is a stupid speed and i'm sure you regret it now With penalties like that, no wonder people drive while DQ'd.

162 mph in a P1 17 January 2003 08:17 PM

Well this was the first and last time the car has been over 120mph and when even driving at that speed i do not think about things like tyres blowing out does anybody agree?? and COD i suppose when u r driving u think every car coming the other way might swerve and hit u head on!!!!! weirdo

worley 17 January 2003 08:18 PM

Codhead,

I take it you drive everywhere very slooooowwwwwly. ;)

carl 17 January 2003 08:19 PM

Chances are that at higher speed at least you would keep going in a straight line.
At a higher speed, at least you get it all over with quicker.

162 mph in a P1 17 January 2003 08:20 PM

The book speed is 155 but real are book speeds usually 100% accurate? and eas every P1 produced givin exactly the same BHP i dont think so.

Shark 17 January 2003 08:22 PM

Did you take the corner at 162 :p

162 mph in a P1 17 January 2003 08:25 PM

NO lets say it was on a motorway. And boys i was warned not to publicise this that why their is funny names and adresses suppose its black male but id rather just have the 4 year ban.

Sheepsplitter 17 January 2003 08:25 PM

Neil Smalley: I think you have a point about the max speed.
You almost certainly could challenge the max speed if the manufacturers figures are 155mph, it would imply possibly the police picked a number, or that their kit needed recalibrating, which might be enough to get off on a technicality.
I certainly wouldn't personally stand up in court and say my car was producing more BHP or it was modded.
However, at the end of the day, it was considerably over the ton and most courts will disqualify you for 3-6 months minimum if >100mph.

Shark 17 January 2003 08:28 PM

SS

155 to 162 is only 7 so not a lot of diffrence realy.

162

Reread your post - I thought you where talking months not years

David

162 mph in a P1 17 January 2003 08:30 PM

its got an exhaust and induction kit any P1 owners ahd their car this fast before?? somebody put up a topic and see what they say cos if i di it they will probably ignore me.

carl 17 January 2003 08:34 PM

Remember the offence is 'exceeding the 70 mph speed limit' -- it doesn't matter if it's 155 or 162.

Still, a four year ban? People get less than that for drink driving -- which do you think is safer?

People also get less than that for driving without insurance and killing innocent people (OK, it usually comes with a prison sentence, but the actual ban is less), or unauthorized taking.

barge 17 January 2003 08:35 PM

are we talking 4 years or 4 months ??

Ian E 17 January 2003 08:35 PM

4 Years

I seem to remember someone a few years ago getting caught on a Fireblade at a speed above the top speed of the bike. This then threw into question the accuracy of the speed detection. I think the rider got off with a lesser charge after appeal.

carl 17 January 2003 08:36 PM

Bob Iles used to reckon (post PE Phase 1 remap) that his car would hit the rev limiter in 5th. At 25mph per thousand rpm that's over 175 mph
