I am trying to setup a web page with multiple HTML links to various FTP downloads, I have tried using this coding:

<a href="ftp://**.**.**.**/Demo.exe">Test Demo </a>

but I am getting no joy.I have windows XP running IIS and I can log into the ftp site with the anonymous account but when I try and connect through a HTML page nothing happens.
I have a linksys router and have opened up all the specific ports etc.
I think it may be somthing to do with the fact that if you use internet explorer it doesn't use any specific account to log on so the FTP server rejects the connection.
Does anybody know what I need to change in IIS to allow this ??

Well if you are using IE when you enter FTP in the address bar you can go to File|Login As... if you need to limit access to specific users, if you want global access then surely it would be easier to just use:

<a href="http://<url>/Demo.exe">Test Demo </a>

I think what Simon wants to achieve is:

he has some video files stored on his FTP server and wants links on an external website (hosted by someone else) to have the ability to link to them

That way Simon just has the store of files on his server, and anyone accessing his friends website will be able to download the files from Simons server.

Thanks Gary, The thing is I didn't want to leave port 80 open on the router but it seems I don't have much choice.
