Hello everyone...

Is it me, but I have noticed more and more people are modifying scoobs.. a few people are now running uprated engines?

Is this the new face of scoob ownership ?

Is it time to get an Evo ? http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Love the discretion Richard, RS http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif can mean 2 very different things on different sides of the pond.
I'm just going to go and have a fag now http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

HAPPY 24 February 2000 08:00 PM

wanting more power is not a problem.
just so long as we don't all start sticking "max" power body kits on and start slamming our cars to the floor, and have hideous paint jobs with huge great writing up the sides.
i love my scoob, whats wrong with getting the best from the engine, suspension, brakes etc so that we can enjoy them to the "MAX"
(oh no! there i go,"MAX" power)
if i could afford an evo i would still want to "play" with it)

Bajie 24 February 2000 08:19 PM

No disrespect intended ...
But I think there is a case of crowd following too.
The majority seem to have exhausts, breathing and chip mods. We scream about how good they are and, quite justifiably, sing the praises of those selling and installing them.
Next it will be front mounted intercoolers.
What I will say though is at Santa Pod the UK spec Scoobies did themselves proud against everything they ran against and managed sub 14sec times and 100+mph terminal speeds. My UK PPP did 13.66 and 108mph!
Do the mods but make sure you know why you are doing them and if you REALLY want them.
To date the addition I like most on my car is the colour coded side indicators.

Bajie 24 February 2000 08:23 PM

Remember no disrespect intended in the above post!
BTW the Evo VI is absolutely awesome and unfortunately quicker than our scoobs in standard trim. And its got brakes.

HAPPY 24 February 2000 08:24 PM

its your fault i want more power bajie.
i felt "powerless" on those two runs against you at pod.i've got these printouts of our runs that make me want to get my wallet out!

Hmmm....body kits: STI V spoilers, front lip spoilers, etc.
slamming our cars to the floor: Leda B and C lower the ride height somewhat
hideous paint with huge great writing up the sides: sonic blue with WRX badges on both sides and the rear

Seems like we're already there http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Anders 24 February 2000 11:13 PM

I spent a year teasing "Teddy" my best psychiatric mate about all his planned engine mods.

I laughed and laughed as a simple free flowing exhaust and filter change, courtesy of that chocolate biscuit depriving ******* establishment in Basildon (at least they have milk now a days! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/rolleyes.gif ) proved so effective.

Post 2 MOTEC ECU remaps his car limped home.

In my arrogance I watched a few Imprezas creep up to the dark door of Uxbridge and they seemed happy after the result.

A very dark 6 months later I can not begin to understand the depths and compecity of it all! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif

Suffice to say I am jolly upset that my natural allays have all been appeased via their "IM UK warranttees"!

I have my poor remap to thank for the resultant rebuild, I hope to get them to pay soon!

new forged molybdneum coated pistons.

Billet crank.

Steel conrods.

inter-cooler as the one in "their care" was squashed.

new fuel rail and oil catch/cooler.

a link ECU as I do not trust my PCB after the "hoare back has been on it!"

BTW Grig you can edit but you can't hide http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

hmmmm "humphry bogart"????????

NeilR 25 February 2000 11:45 PM

Am i the only person with a decent Phase 1 remap or what????????? http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif

NeilR

Paul Wilson 26 February 2000 01:37 AM

NeilR,
I'm happy
Some are happy and quiet
Some/few/one is unhappy and loud
I'm happy and tend to support PE when the opportunity arrises on the BBS and elsewhere.
The attitude has changed since I had it done though, at first it was ooohhh Phase 1, good choice, goes well does it? Now its ooohhh Phase 1 eh (suck air through teeth) you can afford a new engine can you?
If you have a look through the posts that are negative about PE very few people have had any bad experiences. I find it amazing that 6 months ago there were lots of people singing the praises of the PE Phase1 wheras now, no one dares mention it as the results are predictable, someone jumps in with a horror story.
I love my car
I love my 299 bhp (arrggh 1 hp more where from?)
I love my Scoobysport Downpipe
I love my PE remap

Anders 26 February 2000 02:12 AM

Hmmm unhappy and vociferous.........unhappy and covered by warranty.

I know which camp I would rather be quiet in! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/mad.gif

Paul Wilson 26 February 2000 02:49 AM

Happy and not covered by warranty.
I think that we all take a risk when we run our cars as they were not intended, whether it be using lower grade fuel or running non-stsndard ECU's, or even exaust mods, as ultimately we are putting more power through the engine/transmission than intended.
Ultimately whether it be at 600 miles or 100,000 miles something will give up before it would have otherwise.

I really sympathise with Anders' problem and would hate to be in his position. I think the message is to be wary of what ANYONE tells you, but even that won't neccesaraly save you.

firefox 26 February 2000 12:08 PM

Neil,

Chances are there are loads of happy people (hopefully)

But everyone jumps on and follows trends. At present its the Link. I even have one somewhere... lol

I went the HKS route (cost thousands), but thats just stored in a cupboard at the moment...

If you are happy with what you have and it works, then thats all that matters. Who cares what the person next door does.

J.

Anders 26 February 2000 12:33 PM

Dear Firefox,

I have consulted all and sundry since the demise of my engine over 6 months ago! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/mad.gif

If you had any sense you would use your technical expertise and go "free lance" to the plethora of Scooby enhancing companies that are available!

"Oi U if you can afford a 22B you can afford the Uxbridge experience! "

At the time I went ballistic, now I realise you were "being funny"! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/rolleyes.gif

Please keep posting to the BBS as "you know your onions!" and I personally am very interested in whatever you come up with! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Paul/
You will not make any friends by praising the Phase 1. People on here will think you are mad. You must tell everyone you are trying to sell it. Then you will be welcomed back into the gang like me http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif
Can I not interest anyone in a Phase 1, With a PE exhaust system chucked in. Or you could take the car give me a price.

Bob

firefox 26 February 2000 02:47 PM

Dear all,

Please dont make this a PE thread... lol

We have/had of those before. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

I was just trying to show that more and more people are getting deeper and deeper into tuning... it seems that people are going beyond air filters and exhausts.

J.
