Anybody know how much it would cost to have a higher 5th gear fitted to an Sti RA gearbox? Any ideas of where it could be done?
Many thanks Mike |

not a lot of money.
depends what yours is right now. if its a 0.82, then you can easily put in a 0.738 from any uk car or normal sti, this should give you 21.8mph/1000rpm instead of 19.8 assuming a 4.44 final drive. Anyone who can strip a gearbox can do this for you. fifth is the last gear to go in to the main box so it wont be that much in the way of labour. Try calling town end garage or ring phil venn at barratts motorsport. They are both very decent gear box builders. |
My gearbox man could probably sort it for you:D
|
Even better, I'll give you my gearbox and diff for yours? ;)
Richard Euro my00 :D |
well i went the other way and have the 5th gear ratio you need sat on my kitchen table.
If you want it drop me a mail. |
john, after all your talk about having the best of both worlds, why did you put a 0.83 in there?
|
Lads, thanks very much for the info.
Simon, cheers mate, we may have to talk about that ;) John, I don't own the car yet, but when I do I shall give you a call. How much do you want for it? Thanks Mike |
Guys, I would like to do the same in my STi 5 type R. I presume this would be the same process/part as RA?
Anyone got a complete price for doing this i.e. has anyone had it done? (Sorry to hijack your thread mate but price would be nice do you agree?) [Edited by Chicken Man - 1/14/2003 12:51:26 PM] |
Beware, some of the lowest geared cars actually run 3.9 diffs. The gears in the box are MUCH lower ratio.
My MY95 Ra runs 6500/4th = 92mph (from rolling road) This is the same as a UK 3rd gear!!! The replacement Ra box (MY unknown) which I fitted shortly after I bought the car, was also on a 3.9 with the same ultra low ratio's. If I fitted 4.44 diffs with my gear ratios, I'd be lucky to see 110 mph flat in 5th !! Andy |
