Well, the scooby has broken down. Taken away on a flat bed to the dealer. CEL came on, the revs dropped and any load on the engine made it stall. Revved poorly even at idle and was impossible to drive. Full decat and ITG filter. Any ideas much appreciated as the dealer won't look at it 'til Monday. Try not to scare me too much though!

Just had a daft thought
Is the filter a panel filter. If not check the vacuum pipe that goes into the rubber pipe. The one thats a nightmare to push in. As when this come out. The CEL will come on and the car will stall. It will fire up but will cut out straight away.

Garage have diagnosed a failed exhaust gas tempreture sensor, being replaced this week. No doubt for this to happen again some time down the line. Have posted in Drivetrain for opinion of solutions.

I may be wrong, but I find it hard to beleive that a failed ex. gas temp sensor, would bring the car to a stop.

I had a failure to the EGT sensor. It was reading 200 C constantly. However the car was running perfectly.

now I'm concerned again, but that's what I was told. I'll give them a ring in the morning and ask why that would stop the car. It did run, but wouldn't rev and would stall under load. Starting to sound serious again.

Is there an induction kit fitted??? possible AFM problems??

Wasn't in Limpsfield, Surrey was it ? I saw a new shape with the bonnet up and a low loader. Didn't look good :-(

I was on foot with wife & son ;-) I live round the corner near the tennis club. Didn't like to interfere - spectators are the last thing you need in a situation like that !

I drive a V-reg blue MY00 with the usual suspect mods. I only get to use it at the weekends but I'll keep an eye out for you when you're back on the road. There are a lot of Scoobs in / around Oxted including a couple of P1's. I keep hoping to find myself behind one and check out whether my Tek2.5 can match P1 Power !

A popular fix in the US for fried EGT sensors (the one in the up-pipe) is a 2.2kOhm resistor, preferably rated at 0.5W or more, IIRC. Allegedly the sensor's main aim in life is to ensure that the up-pipe cat isn't overheating, so if the cat isn't there, it isn't a problem to "fool" the ECU. However, all the posts on the US board don't say that the car cuts out when that sensor is dead. Don't know if that helps or not?

it's worrying me that the car has stopped if it is an EGT sensor failure, unless the ECU reacts differently to a failure as opposed to high tempreture readings. Soon find out I suspect.

Garage convinced its the EGT sensor failure, but guess what, part on back order so gonna be a bit of a wait before we see whether the diagnosis is correct. Currently hving to drive something else, although provide free by Subaru Assist :)

I'm not a scooby owner (had planned to be but other cars are taking my fancy at the mo') but I read right through this thread

and it might be one you should pay attention to. It relates to an STI but essentially it seems that any mods that might have a bearing on engine performance (in this instance ITG filter plus exhaust centre + rear box) can be a reason for the IM warranty to be invalidated if an failure occurs.
So I think it's worth giving serious consideration to ensuring that any filter replacement is a Subaru approved one and the same for any exhaust mods.

That's just my reading of the (current) findings as posted in that thread but there IS the threat that non-approved mods may have expensive implications.

Andy, you're right, non-approved modifications do bear the threat of expensive implications, but it is an assessment of risk. I may live to regret my decision to go the non-PPP route but I did may those decisions with my eyes wide open.

Hope it works out ok - it seems you undertook the mods with greater awareness of the impications if anything was to go wrong than some others do.
