Now we know why crime on the streets, gun related crime and drug abuse has escalated under this New Labour government. All the damn police resources are being WASTED on speeding motorists. In the words of Enfield - Oi ! Blunkett, Nooooooo !

Redkop 09 January 2003 09:33 PM

I came through Baldwins Gate last night round about 6 ish and they weren't there then. But with the amount of slow- moving traffic at that time, they wouldn't have caught anyone. That A53 through to Shrewsbury is a right sh*te road!

Mike123 09 January 2003 10:13 PM

Watch out for the blue Volvo T5 saloon V-reg and burgundy Omega W-reg - they will "bait" you if they're a bit bored.......

catflap 09 January 2003 11:47 PM

As a regular on that road (work in N-u-L and our HQ is out in Shropshire), most cars don't slow down much going through Baldwins Gate.

There's a nice alternative route if you're stuck in a queue going through the village. Give it some welly and you can make it to the Swan with Two Necks in front of the queue :D

Turn down the side of the Mainwarring Arms on to Three Mile Lane for a nice x-country run.

Steve PPP 10 January 2003 11:12 AM

ChrisB

I always go the Slaters route turning in BG to avoid The Swan with 2 Necks queue.

I also always go slow through Baldwins Gate, it amazes me how many of the people who have held me up doing 40-45 through the 60 limit areas keep to that speed in BG. I call them 1-speed drivers (amongst other things).

The police were not checking speed in BG itself, but by the Swan and past The Mainwaring. The other cars were to chase after the naughty speeders! Apparently, they were also down the road to Maer and Hill Chorlton. That make over 8 cars.

The Volvo by The Swan was actually parked on the island with his headlights on! How dangerous is that?

Steve PPP 01 September 2003 09:09 PM

Came home my usual way tonight. Small village on the A53 Newcastle to Shrewsbury road, called Baldwins Gate. There were 2 Volvo estates with cameras, 2 more pulling up cars, and 2 area cars blocking escape routes. Thought there had been a robbery, no they were catching people speeding!!!!
My wife forgot to tell me they were out last night as well, I was not around as I was coming back from Prodrive after having PPP fitted!

I would have been doing a silly speed past the first laser car testing out the new kit, (purely in the interests of science of course), but was stuck behind traffic, Thank God.

So lets be careful out there, but what a waste of resources.

Must get a radar detector, what's a good model?

Steve

Just thought, should I have put this in the Midlands section?

Guys. Check out this website:

http://www.staffordshire.gov.uk/cameralifesavers/mobiletimetable.htm

They have been doing the mobile speed camera thing for the last month in different locations.

Oh and I also work on the outskirts of N-U-L DMB classic MY00 Turbo. Usually down the A500 & A34 roads.

ChrisB 03 October 2003 10:07 PM

A34 Talke Road, Newcastle from junction of A500 to Wolstanton Rd / Dimsdale Parade West island
Was a mobile van sat on central verge by the Parkhouse roundabout yesterday (Thursday). Was looking back up the hill to Bradwell lights (where Tins is), so people coming over the crest would be pinging before they could anchor on.

I reckon I was doing about 40 or 42 as I crested the hill...

jpor 03 October 2003 10:08 PM

ChrisB at what time did you spot them ? And is this the verge next to High Carr ?

alcazar 03 October 2003 10:13 PM

Never mind radar/laser detectors: someone hurry up and invent something that fries the radar/laser.

Thursday was about 2 or 3pm till 5pm.

As you come down the hill from Bradwell lights, so Tins and the Jap Import garage with all the FTOs, 4x4s and MX-5s is on your left. The grass verge in the middle of the A34 is big at the bottom. They were parked slap bang in the middle of that - across from ANC.

I work on High Carr now.

jpor 03 October 2003 10:28 PM

Chris B. Phew.. I work on High Carr too. Thought I'd been rumbled in the morning. Like to pelt it one up the hill and test that torque. Heard that they can get you from behind these days.

cordner 03 October 2003 11:09 PM

so none of you lot never been to southend! police everywhere, hidden speed cameras. the norm really for a good night out in the car really!

jpor 03 October 2003 11:14 PM

I think it's starting to get bad anywhere. The only thing I have noticed more of. Is fecking Gatso Cameras

douglasb 03 October 2003 11:43 PM

Staffordshire Police FAQ clicky

My question is "Why do I find that, in Staffordshire, every time the speed limit drops unnecessarily by 10mph there will be a Gatso within 100 metres?".

And they're not just revenue raisers - my arse!

Doug

cordner 03 October 2003 11:47 PM

in southend they have hidden cameras SO BEWARE

jpor 03 October 2003 11:56 PM

Cordner. Will do and thanks for the advice.

cordner 04 October 2003 12:09 AM

no imlach, just the boy racers or the girly racers

medders 04 October 2003 12:28 PM

If there were that many cars at the scene I would doubt very much that they were catching speeders........More likely other offences - no insurance / tax / stolen etc etc.....and the camera will probably be ANPR.

jpor 04 October 2003 04:09 PM

Medders. Theres a big thing going on in the area regarding speeding vehicles at the moment. They have been doing this for the last couple of months. Personally I think it's a sly way of getting revenue and cutting back on traffic for the government.

medders 04 October 2003 09:31 PM

None of us on here know the "big picture" I agree, but I'm speaking from my own experiences of this type of thing. All too easy to slag the police of on Scoobynet these days and it really gets on my t1ts. Probably shouldn't take it personally but hey, I'm only human......
