Im using Netgear RP114, might have being replaced. I used it for 4 ports.

I also had linksys SR14 i think, didnt like it bust after 3months constant usage.

Simple terms :) RP114 performs NAT. NAT automatically blocks unauthorised inbound traffic. It’s the most basic and widely used form of protection when using broadband routers :)

Why not just get a software based firewall??!?!?!

Sits on the PC protecting you.

One program you'll ever need

Si;)

super_si 09 January 2003 09:46 PM

seems over kill compared to a free piece software!

roadrunner 09 January 2003 09:48 PM

Nah! Nothing can be overkill when it comes to security. Anyhow its only a few quid more than the RP114 :)

super_si 09 January 2003 09:49 PM

free firewall or Hub for £50 + know which id get ;)

roadrunner 09 January 2003 09:58 PM

Ifs its a single computer then a free firewall software job would do. I wouldn't bother with a router :)

Free isn't always the bet option! For example would you have a free drink that someone has left on the table or would you buy the drink from the bar, I would choose the latter. I can guess what one you would choose ;)

super_si 09 January 2003 10:01 PM

Hell yeah :D

Im a student get wrecked for free ;).

i just get a firewall.

roadrunner 01 September 2003 09:39 PM

Forgot to say I would consider the Instant Broadband EtherFast®Cable/DSL Firewall Router with 4-Port Switch/VPN EndPoint

It has superior security features and isn't that more expensive :)
