Please remember that even though scoobs are a pretty good car, they are not invincible in this weather.
My husband, SJ Skyline was involved in a horrible accident at the weekend when he hit black ice, skidded, spun the scoob twice hit a fire engine and then a ditch. He was not speeding and was driving within the safe limits for the conditions (which was confirmed by witnesses). The scoob is destroyed but more importantly, I still have my husband alive and uninjured apart from a bit of whiplash.
Please take care
Anna

It's terrifying how long a car takes to slow down once you've lost traction on ice:(

Stueyb 06 January 2003 10:12 AM

I spun this morning and I can tell you it was scary, thankfully I was not going at all fast, just hit the icey road (off a main road) and spun through 90 degrees. Im fine, just brings it home a little.

TurboKitty 06 January 2003 10:43 AM

5hit!! Anna, I'm sorry to hear this. I'm glad that Rich is OK. Please pass my best wishes on to him.

Paulo P 06 January 2003 10:47 AM

 I know the roads are very bad (nearly had a moment myself this morning) I am very very sorry to hear about this. I am very Glad that Rich is ok.

Paulo P 06 January 2003 10:49 AM

p.s that's 2 people I know that own scoobs that have crashed them in the last week

RB5320 06 January 2003 11:07 AM

I unfortunately saw a badly smashed silver bug-eye wagon this morning. looked like it had slid sideways and been hit hard on the drivers side by a van. I hope all concerned are ok. AWD = good traction, not good grip.

Jesus christ, sorry to hear about this!! the main thing is that Rich is ok.

jrichardson 06 January 2003 11:10 AM

Sorry to hear your news. I was just the other day following a J reg Escort Cabriolet, (urgh). Approx 15-20 mph round a tight bend, the escort went round fine and yet my Impreza Wagon just wanted to go straight on. Very un-nerving I can tell u and I cant think why the Scooby slipped and the escort didnt, both at same speeds.I was using engine braking rather than brakes and let still momentarily loss of traction. WEIRD!

Mice_Elf 06 January 2003 11:13 AM

 Damn... Anna - glad that Rich is OK - please pass on my best wishes and hope that he has a speedy recovery!

Take Care...

carl 06 January 2003 11:17 AM

Yes, for those who are used to karting (get sideways and it stops within a few feet), it's very surprising how long it takes a 1.25 ton car to stop once you've got it into a spin :(

IanWatson 06 January 2003 11:26 AM

jrichardson - the escort will have been wearing skinny tyres - these 'grip' better than wide tyres in snow.

Bit like a lady wearing stilleto heels, small contact area but massive downward pressure that cuts through the snow better.

OMG! Have only just read this. Glad to hear that Rich is ok, and that's the main thing.

I've been taking it easy this morning as it's not nice out there.

happy thoughts go out to both you and Rich.

iain atkins 06 January 2003 12:44 PM

Not nice conditions at all, and my thoughts out to all those that have had offs etc.

Where i live i have to drive on untreated roads for at least 7 miles before i hit a main road, and i know how it feels.

Be careful, and be safe

Anna / Rich,

If there is anything we can do to help, give me a call.
Sorry I missed your call on Sunday - I only hope it wasn't related to this.

Glad you are ok.

All the best, Alex

MATTeL 06 January 2003 12:57 PM

Rich,
Glad you are okay and walked away from the accident.

Anna,
08:30 phone calls are very scary, I am glad you sounded less upset as the day went on.

DrEvil,
Now you know why I was "thoughtful" in the car yesterday.

scoob_babe 06 January 2003 01:35 PM

Thanks guys - although Jen, the witnesses were the firemen whose truck he hit - lucky that they weren't in it too!

Scoob99 06 January 2003 01:44 PM

Rich,
get well soon m8, hope that you are both getting over the shock of it.
Cheers
Colin

FCUKING HELL

Anna if you or Rich need owt or lifts anyway you know where I am..

SJ_Skyline 06 January 2003 05:10 PM

Dear All,

Thankyou for the kind words you have said here. I am still very shaken from the whole thing although my neck and back are not so sore now.

I went to have a look at the car today and I am amazed at how I walked away relatively unscathed. I'll post up a couple of photos when I get hold of them.

Risky's post makes me think just how lucky I have been. My thoughts are with your neighbour and his family.

Once again, thankyou all. (And a special thankyou to MeJulie and Gossy for helping Anna and myself through this)

Rich
