Not had any problems.

Which program are you using to upload?
Have you managed to upload OK in the past?

You should be using upload.ntlworld.com with your user name and password.

Scooby Snax 02 January 2003 09:56 PM

i use ws_ftp le and no problems

profile name: upload.ntlworld.com
host name: upload.ntlworld.com
host type: auto detect
user id: i.e fred or whatever
password: *********

and jobs a gooden!!!

First time i've tried to upload.

Tried a page from frontpage 97 with the settings you say and tried a page from coffee cup editor and no good either,i get no response, the 2 small computer things dont go green and i get timed out. There is no password prompt in fp 97.

Thanks Paul

I had the same problem when trying to use CuteFTP. In the end I installed NTL's own FTP client called Terrapin. It can be found here

After I installed Terrapin it worked fine. Only downside is that it costs £19.95 after the 30 day trial. I'll look into getting CuteFTP or another agent working after my 30 days run out.

Frontpage makes some assumptions about where you're going to upload (you need to change them every time when you come to upload).

For example, if your webspace is http://homepage.ntlworld.com/fred.bloggs it will try to upload the files to ftp://homepage.ntlworld.com/fred.bloggs

In fact, where you're supposed to put the files is http://upload.ntlworld.com/fred.bloggs

I've had no problems using CuteFTP when uploading. Have uploaded a couple of files recently as well

Fig 03 January 2003 11:55 AM

Ditto what Hanslow says - using CuteFTP Pro, no problems.

Only grief I get is not being able to FTP into NTL when not connected via NTL account.

Make sure you're using the right password. Sometimes the passwords can get out of whack, so your e-mail/login password isn't the same as your webspace upload password. Try using the original password that came with the NTL CD, or get NTL to reset it.

Fig 04 January 2003 11:30 AM

Try NTHellWorld you will find masses of help and advise.

paul w 04 January 2003 10:09 PM

Thanks for the link.Still problems though.

Fig 05 January 2003 02:22 PM

Have you tried using Terrapin from the NTL site?

ADP 05 January 2003 04:44 PM

I have similar problems, am on NTL broadband, but am logging into plus net.

Works like a dream at work, but here using either of WSFTP, Secure FX or even Dos it just hangs up, timesout, cancels, anything but ftps - takes me lots of attempts(very annoying) to get stuff onto a site.

I have never managed to FTP into NTL when connected via another ISP - think NTL block this.

Never had a problem connecting to any site by FTP though, in fact I'm uploading stuff to another site right now using Cute FTP Pro.

paul w 05 January 2003 07:45 PM

I tried terrapin and that wont give me access,i am trying to connect through ntl on a bt line,i have double checked everything, used original password etc,got a lot of help from your link-cheers for that, rang ntl and they even tell me i'm using the correct user etc so wtf do i do.

I suggest progressing this with NTL. This is their problem. You have used their preferred product and they have confirmed that you have the correct credentials and this still not working.

I'd speak to a NTL tech support supervisor.

I just tried to upload a few MP3's to my webspace for my brother to download and it will not give me access via NTL's own terrapin.

I checked NTL's server status here and it states

ntl:home - All Packages - Web Space Service
ntlworld Internet customers using ntl web space servers may be experiencing a loss of service when trying to upload their websites. This is due to a technical fault, our engineers are aware and working towards a resolution.

Looks like i'm finally getting somewhere, this is the reply for the techys

Hi

Thank you for your recent e-mail

Sorry for the belated reply

I can verify that there is a problem with your account authorising the
webspace, I have tried to refresh the system, but it has failed on
each attempt. Therefore I have notified our server support team that
there is fault on your account, and hopefully they will rectify it
very shortly.

Thank you for your e-mail, I hope I have answered your queries
Please do not hesitate to contact ntl: if your problems persist

Why on earth are the support team in Swansea dealing with a query in Lincolnshire???

darlodge 12 January 2003 09:45 PM

Fig, its more than likely to be a Call Centre.

Nice to see that you are getting somewhere Paul.
