After having the aircon on for more than an hour it starts to make ticking and cracking noices under the dashboard and in the passenger footwell (right hand drive).

Also condensation starts to drop in the footwell aswell as a lot under the car on the street once you stop (I know that a few drops are normal but this looks more like a small river)

It seems that something is getting very cold causing excessive condensation but the actual air coming out of the vents is not cold at all.

So what's wrong? Any ideas plse?

Plse note I am driving in Thailand with temps around 30 degrees and humidity between 70/80%

Tnks!

The evaporator is icing up. There is a temperature sensor that detects the external temperature of the evaporator and the Air Con amplifier (ECU) should disengage the magnetic clutch on the compressor when this sensor indicates about 2 degrees. Yours is not doing this and therefore ice is forming on the evaporator. It does not blow cold because ice is an insulator and it is insulating the cooling effect of the evaporator (latent heat of evaporation). The sensor is probably faulty but you should get this checked.

Turned out that the evaporator was leaking at 3 points..., has been replaced, new coolant and also new compressor oil (no idea why though), total costs GBP 80.- (in Thailand), thanks your advice.
