Excellent, I didn't think that there would be enough room in a Beetle engine bay.

Patt@firstime 31 December 2002 12:17 AM

Very nice-like it :D

Isnt there a Porsche (Chesil) Speedster replica around with a Scoob engine in it?

Paulo P 03 January 2003 11:40 AM

 still a sh!t car though :(

ChristianR 03 January 2003 11:53 AM

that beetle in the movie goes like a radio controlled car! lol

A pal in the late-80s had a beetle with a 911 turbo lump in it. Apparently a very easy conversion, just needed to remove the luggage space behind the rear seats and fit a 'whale tail' to give the clearance and provide sufficient cooling. That was a beast, wheelspin in all 4 gears

A mate back home has stuck a Rover 3.5 V8 in the back of one. Engine lid can't quite close but apart from that looks great. Another stuck in a 930 engine.

I went slightly sillier and stuck a 350ci V8 in a Triumph Spitfire. Have piccies if anyone is morbidly curious.

Loads of 550 Spyder and 356 kits at home get fitted with the WRX engine. Bloody quick when they only weigh in around 700kgs.

We want pictures :D:cool: that sounds like a very  car (the spitfire). I am suprised that power didn't fold it in half

Original engine in same bay (fitted for painting) for comparison. Yes it is a genuine Ferrari exhaust. And the number plate is for real too.

Engine fitted prior to paint. 350ci V8. Torana brakes and a Supra box and rear end. Only a small bulge in the bonnet (not as big as the GT6) and an increase in the exhaust of about 40dB gave the game away.

A friend of mine is restoring a GT6  What Gearbox did you use?

Paulo P 03 January 2003 05:08 PM

 didn't realise you could go that mad on them. What happened to the spitfire?

Still got them. :D

Toyota Supra 5 spd. The old heavy box. Has it hooked up to the original 1300 engine first but that was turboed and then supercharged. There are standard mounting kits available for the Supra box and most engines, including the GT6 lump. They are pretty unbreakable up to 500hp.

Loved the MK2 GT6 with the extra bonnet venting and the rounded back.

Still have a MK3 and a MK 2 Spitfire at home in the shed. One is a Le Mans replica and the other is 4WD. Yep, 4WD. Used the front wheel drive from a Toledo and fed the rear axle by unblanking the gearbox (standard Triumph box). Will try and find some piccies.
