Does any one out there know which pin out on an STI 7 ECU would give a reading to the Tachometer. I need this in order to install the "remote-start" on a Viper Alarm.

Lizzard I,m sure you can programme the viper unit to give a timed starter output rather than tacho
If not you can use any injector wire.

However, I found the input wire on the harness to the tachometer and it seems to work fine :)

Never install a remote start sytem without connecting an RPM sensing wire. If for some reason there was a stuck throttle condition, the remote starter won't detect this and your engine might over-rev and blow itself to pieces. Plus, with such an input it knows when the engine has started correctly, and if it has stalled it will also know whether it ought to turn off the ignition or have a go at restarting the engine.

Max if the throttle was stuck open it would have been stuck open when you last turned off the engine
Also a lot of the new type of engine starters (from the USA) have a voltage sensor built in so they know the engine is running because it is charging.

Yes, I've seen such systems whereby if the installer doesn't want to go to the trouble of picking up an RPM input, they can be set to monitor the supply voltage and can tell the difference between battery voltage and charging voltage. The illustration of the stuck-throttle was simply a worst case scenario, unlikely as it may seem, but for the sake of one wire, it would always be wiser to connect a proper RPM input. I can think of several vehicles which for one reason or another don't immediately produce a noteable charging voltage once they've been started, which could cause the remote starter to keep the starter motor engaged in a running engine which won't do them much good! But then the manufacturers of a lot of the remote starters intended them to be able to be fitted by the DIY'er and so incorporated this sort of facility to make the installation easy, whereas the professional installer will obviously have the knowledge and test equipment such as an oscilloscope to be able to find a suitable management wire with an RPM pulse train on it.
