Relating to recent threads on the lifespan for LCD and Plasma televisions.
I was in John Lewis [Brent Cross ... deliberate plug] and finally found someone who could give me sensible answers to my concerns regarding bulb lifetime.
Sony Grand Wega lifetime of the bulbs is 6000 hours [approx. 3 years].
The television comes with a five year parts and labour guarantee.
Plasma sets are 3-4000 hours.
Finally, and most importantly. The set is I have found no other stores offering a five year guarantee as standard.
Price of the Grand Wega is 6,500 [Never knowingly undersold!!!].
They have many other sets also with the same standard parts+labour guarantee. I don't know if they sell multi-region DVD but think it highly unlikely.
Finally, the Grand Wega is the most stunning set you will ever see ... go check it out!
Happy shopping http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

So you pay 6 grand+ for a TV you know is going to break in 3 years, you get it fixed knowing it will break a second time a year after your warranty runs out.

No thanks!

Good point well put.
But in 3-5 years you might be getting this technology:-

I've still got a portable 14" Sony trinitron in my bedroom - still works perfectly after 14 years!

Be warned that Sony Centres are independant shops that get a sort of franchise from Sony. So their warranties are not backed up by Sony.

unless it is a Sony warranty that they are offering, of course.

Sunil

For your information, the PS2 is packed in a rather nice blue box.
The same blue as the LED on the 735 DVD player.
I might have to keep them as they complement each other rather well http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif
