Just been playing this and I'm wondering if I have done the right thing in the game.

I've found a bloke shipwrecked on an island, just off from the plaza and assumed I needed the boat to rescue him, so tried the boat moored in the plaza - character sai dthe boat wasn't ready to leave. Went to what I thought was the boathouse and was asked if I wanted to swap 10 of my blue coins for a shine, so I did that.

Now the boat house has disappeared. Is that just part of the storyline, and how do I rescue the shipwrecked guy now?

Ermm.. I think there are three things to do on that island..

1 - squirt water at the golden bird you will see flying around - reward is a shine I seem to remember...
2 - put the fire out to get an extra life - but pick it up before it hits the sea and disappears..
and 3 - use the boats (when they are moving after X number of shines are collected) to get Yoshi to the island - once there use yoshi to eat the yellow goo covering the green tube, which opens up a new sub level.
