Hi - I am trying to get my hands on a C4S, pref. high-ish mileage to keep the price down.

Anyone know much about how much (off/on top of) list I can expect to pay, and what the market outlook is like for these - i.e. is the price bubble likely to burst soon?

If this is likely to prove too expensive (as it seems it is likely to be given the searches I have done) I was thinking about a 993 turbo. The thing that puts me off is that I am used to the creature comforts of the new style M3. I have been told that the 993 turbo is a bit of a beast (no TC etc) and the interior is shockingly bad. Anyone got one?

993 tt has 4wd, so no need of a TC. Interior has bad ergonomics, but that's abt it, it's very solid & has all the equipment u need as std (a/c, lthr, s/r etc). Car will be noisy & firm riding tho.

993 turbo far from a beast, its very easy to drive, like any porsche, it can bite, but only when provoked!.

Interior is very dated, but some call it character!. Personally i didn't like it, but it didnt ruin my enjoyment of the car.

New C4S is a beaut. Only had a very quick drive of one, but a beautiful car...but....brand new, very few around let alone 2nd hand, and any that are will be at or above list :(

The 993 T4 is another cracker, hellish quick and a *real* Porsche. I found the ergonomics fine and the car over all superb - a real everyday supercar. Tough choice, but a 993T4 will be a fair bit cheaper than the cheapest 996 C4S.

Choice between the two, I would go 996 C4S, newer car, quick enough given todays ****e driving chances, but you certainly wouldn't feel short-changed with a 993T4.

One alternative, and it would be my choice if I wasn doing less than 10k per year, a 993 RS. IMO the best 911 ever. Early ones should be around for c£35k, less for higher mileage/LHD. Beautiful to look at, the best handling 911, and a real race car for the road. NA engine so great response, and not too much to go wrong mechanically compared to the T4. On the road the T4 is quicker, but on track the RS is pretty much as quick, and a lot more fun.

T4 is the ultimate (non-RS) 911. 996 is Euro-friendly, spoiled-fun girlies car in comparison. If you want a 911 it has to be air-cooled.

The 996 is a great car, but IMHO it is starting to get too far from the true 911 experience.

Last summer I was invited (by Porsche) to Thruxton to drive the current range. Again IMO, the Carrera 2 coupe with manual 'box was the best car on the day. I also drove the C4S in Tiptronic and Manual, and Cabrio's and Boxsters (they didn't provide a Turbo :( ). Overall though I didn't want to take any of the cars home with me.

I don't have the patience for vinyl, but I do believe that it produces a better sound than digital if it's in good condition and played on decent gear ;)

Basically the cars are so different that driving both (and knowing what it'll be used for) should answer the question. No offence Skittles, but it sounds like you don't want a 911 so much as a Porsche.

RB5: you are probably right. If I was a 911 purist it would be simple case of the 993 t4!

Well, the T4 is my ultimate, but it sounds like I'm about £40k behind you in the saving stakes at the mo!
