I use play247.com and have been since 98. I only buy region 1s from them though. our price/hmv/local stores 3 for 2 deals always seemed simpler for region2s

Robski,

Not a 'thicki' question at all....I've had a DVD player for about a year now and am still getting used to the differing versions available http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/confused.gif . Fortunately I have a TV which allows me to change the screen image to Wide-Screen, Cinema, 16:9, 4:3 etc so I really have fun http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif One thing I have noticed is that some region 1 discs have poorer sound quality than others, ie: I have to turn the sound up louder than usual ???

If you have any particular DVD's you want from region 1 let me know as my brother-in-law "trades" in them at boot sales and usually has a few of the newer issues available (Pitch Black for example)...good for me as I don't have to pay to watch them http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Regards

Yex

Mr Thicky,
1) Depends on the disc, have used play247.com and dvdplus.co.uk, but best to shop around.
2) I think they call them magazines, but there probably is a web site somewhere.
3) There are actually 3 kinds: Full Screen (4:3), Widescreen (varies), and Anamorphic Wide Screen (16:9). Ideally you want the anamorphic ones as they fill a widescreen TV, where as normal Widescreen ones have bars at the top and bottom.

to know :
1) where to buy DVDs cheapest in the UK, or for shipment to the UK
2) is there anywhere that lists the ones to avoid, i.e. the flippers, where region 1 is better than 2 etc etc
3) some (e.g. alien boxset) are listed as widescreen, others arent, are there actually 2 different DVDs (like videos), or is this just that the person putting it on the web site hasn't bothered to list widescreen in some cases

now, you can call me Mr Thicky!

I use play247.com as well and have always found them very reliable and competitively priced. Thousands of other places you can try though such as absolutedvd.co.uk and admitone-dvd.com.

play247 does seem like the cheapest at the moment.
If you want a movie there and then it is worth checking out both HMV and WHSmiths. Smiths have been doing a buy one get one half price, ok the prices are more the p247 but with the half price it can be less. HMV were doing buy 3 get one free the other day too so always worth having a look in town.
PC World were doing a buy one get on e half price as well the other day but most of the films are more than WHS.
