Sitting here (having a beer..) watching the documentary on Eddie Irvine again.

Be honest - if you could, would you not swap places with the guy? The cars, the girls, the houses, the bikes, the lifestyle, racing for Ferrari (OK I know it's now Jaguar, but it was last year) etc.

But is he happy? ...You betcha!!

Cheers

Oh I thought he was a totally arrogant self centred ****, but that was obvious way back when he was interviewed by Clarkson. He was being unnecessarily rude even back then.

I mean, who in their right mind goes on public television saying he saw a 17 year old girl with 'tits out to here'?!!? This program SHOULD have been an excercise in public relations, a promotional stint, if you like. I can't see him having made any frineds like that.

Utterly cheap and devoid of any inteligence. I can't see what the fuss is about.

I always suspected that Irvine was a bit of a self-centred to55er, and that programme last night basically backed this up.

Nice lifestyle though...

yeah, he even owns a car sales business in Ireland and we supply his accounting software (which is very cheap, so he must be spending his wonga on his beeeeeeetych's!) http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

I think he owns a couple of taxi-cab businesses in Dublin (amongst other things) -and If you've tried to get a taxi in Dublin you'll know that this is a nice little earner aswell http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Dr Hu 15 November 2000 09:28 AM

Funny though....after watching that prog I wasn't sure if I really liked the guy. He just seemed a bit self centred, hey look at me, f**k you kinda guy.

Maybe i'm just jealous!!

Whaddya think??

Mind you the base jumping prog on before it was a rush...man are they real....VERY moving when that ex SAS bloke got killed....My wife said it going to be him, you could just tell his heart was'nt in it anymore.......this was TV at its best I thought...very thought provoking.

Chris L 15 November 2000 11:50 AM

Know what you mean Dr Hu - I wouldn't want to swap personailties, but I think I could handle everything else http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

And yes, that program on base jumping was awesome. I was getting vertigo just watching it.

Chris

harryh 15 November 2000 03:39 PM

I went to the same school as him (year or two below though) and you'll not hear me disagree with the opinions expressed above. So, yes I'd like his lifestyle but if I had to become him to get it, I think I'd rather drive a Yugo and go out with Ann Widecomb (if that's how you spell it)

AWD 15 November 2000 03:53 PM

That comment about - well if people gave me 10 million dollars I wouldn't care, but if tey gave me 100 million it would make a difference - arrogrant b@stard.

I felt sorry for the people who had to work with him - manager, his sister, etc. but then I suppose he does pay them well.

Chris L 15 November 2000 03:54 PM

Not sure Harry - but I think we get your point http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Mind you, wouldn't you consider him even more two-faced if he came across all 'warm and cuddly' on screen when you know he is a **** in real life?

I can think of plenty of people who would do that.

Whatever your personal opinions of the bloke, I reckon he's still got it pretty good.

Chris

I don't think that anyone will disagree that he has a fantastic lifestyle....

lucky sod.

chiark 15 November 2000 04:05 PM

I always liked the EVO bit about Irvine (Eddie, not Lord http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif ) just after he joined Jaguar.

I think their comment was along the lines that he was not at all Jaguar's image. The exact quote was "Ervine is a hairy arsed braggadocio", which is why I remember it...

He is arrogant and self centred, and knows it. Strange thing is he's talented but not the best...

Still, the lifestyle. Hmm, let me thi

f1 car?

AWD 16 November 2000 08:28 AM

I did find it funny how his family kept referring to him as Edmund.

...and his father is called Edmund as well. I wonder if that is along the lines of "I had to endure this name so I am going to inflict it on my son"

RonaldoH 16 November 2000 09:40 AM

Eddie is a nice bloke. You could see what he was like around his daughter...yeah he likes the fast life etc etc...but would'nt we all eh?

Fair play to that man!!D http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

DavidRB 16 November 2000 05:37 PM

Why should he be humble? He's not a public or civil servant. He's not paid directly by us. He's not accountable to us. He's employed because he's considered a quick driver, not because he's a peace-broker for the United Nations. As was pointed out, at least he's honest with his opinions.

Anyway, if he was as nice-as-pie, you'd all be up here saying what a boring git he was! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

harryh 16 November 2000 05:46 PM

Mightn't be boring but he's still a git. Also just because he's not a government employee doesn't mean that he has to be a wan*er.

sunilp 16 November 2000 07:09 PM

Look, whatever, he is a talented guy and the only reason people slag him off is because he has money and fame and birds. There are loads of tossers on this BBS who aint famous but no one slags them off (except for me!)

kelvin 16 November 2000 08:17 PM

I actually quite liked his "down to earth" approach on the programme - it would have been easy for him to put on heirs and graces to impress the watchers but people would only have then winged at him for putting forward a false picture. If I'm entirely honest I think that anyone in his position, with his job, and his salary ( http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif) would act in pretty much the same way - looking out for no. 1!!! and honestly - why should he care?!!! It was obvious looking at the way that he acted with his daughter that his heart is in the right place.

Base Jumping programme - excellent - as for that jump off of the chimney http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif. I also think the way they put forward "Trevor's" death was very moving and emotional - fantastic programme - wish I'd taped it!!

Great programme, great insight into the daily lives of the F1 drivers, and no disrespect but Eddy is not even at the top, imagine how it must be for Schuey, Coultard etc.

I would definately swap lifestyles but would not want to swap personlities. He came over as arrogant and very self centered.

But there again why should he give a sh*t anyway.

AWD 17 November 2000 08:55 AM

With that sort of money, he can pay someone else to give a sh1t for him...

Fantastic lifestyle... he's making the most of it - hey who wouldn't?

http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

harryh 17 November 2000 08:33 PM

Sunilp, there are many people with more money, fame and birds who don't get slagged off. If those were the only three reasons for the slaggings wouldn't every one who's rich, famous and tripping over tarts get an equal rollicking?

Dave T-S 17 November 2000 09:15 PM

Sunlip
You ain't famous outside this BBS/Croydon, you're fat, you're ugly, you aint rich and the only women you get you have to inflate yourself (the nearest you get to a blow job) - BUT I still slag you off!!!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif
