I have just bought the Apexi Boost controller and have done the wiring which was no problem, but I am a little confused as to where the pressure sensor and solenoid go as diagrams are a big vague. Has anyone installed one of these on a MY99. If so Help !!!!

The OEM solonoid has to be disconnected (leave it wired) and place the Apexi solonoit in his place. It works exactly like the OEM, but the OEM is driving by the standard ECU and the Apexi Solenoiod is driving by the Apexi.
The pressure sensor can be placed near the Solenoid. Split the vacuum hose from the Fuelpressure and connects it to the Apexi pressure.

Thanks Mike.
Done as you have said and appears to be working fine set the boost to 1.2 and appears to be hitting it, although there is now quite a loud clicking noise when you put your foot down, is this just the original solenoid trying to do its work with no pressure?

Hi Phil,

All kind of solenoid has te be installed with rubbers (the original has 2 rubber big rings). Otherwise you will get klicking noises. Double check the two solenoid and see or it is installed with rubbers and make sure that nothing is leaning on.
Phil, what is your settlement of the duty cicle, mine is set at 69%

Hi Mike

I installed the new solenoid with the supplied rubber pad and the original has the two rubber rings,I guess I will have to investigate which one is making the noise.
I set the duty cycle to 65% and then through the self learning part it appears to vary between 64% and 68% across the rev range.
What boost are you running? I have set it to 1.2 and all is ok. Not quite sure where the fuel cut is, but did hit it during the setup of the duty cycle when boost peaked at 1.35.

I drive with 1.30 bar this is in combination with a VF30 and Unichip.
And 1 - 3 gear I add 3% for the duty cycle. This allows me to run 1.35 boost.

Which self learning part can optimize the Duty cycle?? Is it the setiing the Learn Gear.
Can you explain the Feedbak Speed Setting? Why would I use it??

Running a similar setup to yourself!

Don`t bother with the feedback rate IMHO. Apexi reckon it effectively changes the sample rate depending on gear. Higher acceleration in 2nd than 5th less time to sample and hence control boost.....however I`ve found that it does nothing noticeable.

Also if you adjust the intial duty cycle rate for a particular gear, it deactivates the continuous learn function in that gear and runs open loop...again not a big deal BUT if `something` happened and for some reason the turbo tried to make huge boost in those gears in would not attempt to control it.

What knee-points are you using at the low end? If the first rpm site is say 3000rpm, the solenoid opens fully and stops any boost building below that rpm. You may get a better response by using a lower intial rpm say 2000 or 2500rpm (or not!)?

I ran with all the initial offsets set to zero for ages. So less boost in 2nd and slightly less in 3rd. Then set the initial duty as you have to get peak boost in the lower gears. Turned it back a couple of days later in fear of gearbox death!!!

But basically works a treat eh?

I set the RPM as follow,

From 0 - 4000 rpm I set 1.30 bar then 5000 - 6000 rpm I set it on 1.20 bar and built off to 7000 rpm with 0.90 bar. By the way I decrease the dute cylcle with less 4% on the 5th gear.
Do you think the gearbox won't get long live with that setup of increasing the dute cycle with 3%??

Mike,

Did you set a duty-cycle profile along with the boost profile you wanted?

In order to use the self learn function the initial duty cycle you set must be close to the final value. Then when you activate the learn function (** in the duty cycle set box) and drive through 4th gear a couple of times ( 1500-max rpm) it will adapt your inital settings and update them every time full throttle is used.

Then set an offset for 2nd gear and this will be applied to the continuously updated `base` map.

I guess you`ve driven the car and then adjusted the intial duty cycle to get the required boost in each gear (hence -4% in 5th).

The learning function only works if the learn gear function is set on AND 0 inital duty cycle is applied AND the throttle wire has been connected AND full throttle is used!!!!!!!

Also you can change the rpm control points (Knee-point screen I think). You have 8 to set, so to control boost from 2000 - 7000rpm you have most set at 500rpm increments and a couple at 1000rpm. I think 500rpm increments at the low end and 1000 at the top, eg 6000 - 7000rpm, tapering boost from 1.3 to 1.1 .....

The duty cycle has to get the boost reasonably close to the desired level so the software can `hone` in on the `correct` duty cycle.

Therefore you need to set the duty cycle to some value close to correct.

When the duty cycle box shows *** it means the AVC-R has gone into self learn mode.......
