Anyone know whether a set of infinity kappa 693.5i will fit in the rear shelf in a p1? (with some slight adjustment/persuading i imagine:D)

Yes they do, but obviously you will need to trim the holes with a jigsaw to fit.

Or just fit them from underneath, which involves no cutting.

Given that the P1 has a solid rear bulkhead to increase chassis stiffness, cutting metal is a Bad Idea.

chiark, pls xplain how to 'fit from below' as i want to do the same in my RB5 (also with rear solid bulkhead'

Basically, fit the speakers from underneath using the existing holes. You might need to make a spacer that screws underneath the shelf to give the speaker chance to move fully, but it'll save you cutting metal. Very stealthy too.

another option is to buy a set of speakers that are known to fit. Some do, some don't, I'm afraid I don't have a list which ain't much cop :)

Final option is to fit 'em on top and raise them up using an MDF collar. Works, but is completely unstealthy and screams "I HAVE REPLACED MY STEREO AND SPEAKERS, PROBABLY HAVE A CD CHANGER AND GOD ONLY KNOWS WHAT ELSE IN THE CAR"

Or another option, get 6" speakers that fit stealthly from the underside of the shelf, make a mdf bracket to hold them into the original holes and get yourself a wacking great big sub for the boot :D :D :D
