Just fitted a TDO5 on my95 ej20, the car is fine in 1,3,4,5, the boost stabilzes to 1.0 bar.

In 2nd the car over boosts to about 1.3 bar and I can feel the fuelcut come in (is this safe). How do I fix this ? I have a PPP ecu, HKS decat,GGR induction.

:D :D :D :D

I'm pretty sure it will do it in 3,4 and 5 if you start at around 3000rpm when you put your foot down.

What I find confusing, is that you're saying you've just fitted a TD05, but you should have had a TD05 as standard.

If you want to reduce the overboost, you can try lengthening the wastegate actuator, try it just one turn at a time, but make sure you don't jack it open.

I've just seen you fitted an HKS de-cat, did this include the downpipe? The combination of decat but no open-neck/twin dump on the downpipe seems to leed to overboost problems.

Adjusting the wastegate might do the trick.

Hi Pavlo,

The HKS exhaust has the downpipe as well, I swapped the turbo for a new rebuilt TD05, it came with actutor on it. I have adjusted the actutor half a turn this brought it back down to 1.0 bar. Its been on the car for 24 hours only, this morning i noticed it when i accerlated up a hill, it was raining this morning and very cold. I got a hesitation at about 5 1/2 K, heard a couple of small pops from the exhaust backed off and floored it again it was okay.

I noticed it the turbo comes on about 3500 rpm is this right? I am sure my last turbo used to come on a bit eariler. There seems to bit of a flat spot about between 3psi to 5psi when spooling up then it goes.

:D :D :D :D

3500 sounds about right.

Hks downpipe and full decat does seem to be a common factor with overboost on a td05.

Don't mean to scaremonger but this doesn't sound like fuel cut - more like not enough fuel or bad spark. If it's not enough fuel be very careful.....have you checked fuelling?

Hi Richard,

how do i check the fueling ?

:D :D :D :D

dowser 16 December 2002 01:10 PM

AFR gauge of some sort (ie; Lambdalink) if you want an in car view, or a rolling road. It may not be this - but a blown piston is an expensive way of finding out. Fuel cut, on the later cars at least, is a full cut of fuel...sending your head through the windscreen.

Richard would a fuel cut defender from HKS be worth considering ?

:D :D :D :D

rayman 16 December 2002 07:52 PM

it seems to gone away, this time no pops just a slight hesitation at 5 1/2k, then carries on acelerating.

any ideas people ?

:D :D :D :D

Pops with hesitation sounds like the fuel may not be being burnt correctly for whatever reason? Either not enough fuel to burn (yikes:eek:) or spark not, umm, sparking. Although why it's only at one spot would point to the map not agreeing with the current set up to me. But I have no details about this side of things with MY95s anyway!:) Can't think why a dodgy spark would clear up at higher rpm...?

dowser 17 December 2002 06:22 AM

5k5 is probably peak torque on a 95......

Pavlo 17 December 2002 09:53 AM

could have been oil in the turbo compressor side, fouling the plugs the first time you used it.

sounds okay to me, but plugs are important.

rayman 17 December 2002 10:46 AM

Hi Pavlo I did an oil change at the same time, I did pour a little to much oil in at the time. I can smell it in the car at the mo.

I have the same at the moment only at 4000rpm... and I am 99% sure it is oil in the boost solenoid.. I need to get out there and clean it with some brake cleaner.. sounds like you over filled with oil... it then comes up the breather pipes and into the inlet side of things and contaminates the boost solenoid.

I is the cynidical item on the drivers side suspension strut..
there are two there and I can never remember whcih is which, one is the boost solenoid and the other idle control valve (I think)
and I ended up cleaning them both by spraying Halfords own brake cleaner through them.

3500rpm still seems a little late as mine comes in at 3200rpm and I have cats still at the minute.. not sure how restrictive the HKS downpipe is but I would have thought it would be better than the standard downpipe... is the TD05 standard or hybrid?

rayman 18 December 2002 09:24 AM

HI JGM,

I am not too sure if the turbo is a hybrid, I did notice the exhaust oulet turbine blades looked quite big, I can tell you it holds the boost all the way to the rev limit with no probs. The car certainly feels more solid on acceleration. Its sh*t when comming out of corners when the boost comes on, I have had the tail swing a couple of times but who's complaining right. I noticed it happened this morning and the boost did go well over 1.3 bar, then was okay as if it cleared up. This time it happened in 1st and 2nd.

Can the turbo actuator be playing up ?

:D :D :D :D

rayman 18 December 2002 10:51 AM

Just a thought, my PPP ecu will this have a lower fuel cut then a standard ecu ?

:D :D :D :D

Jolly Green Monster 2 19 December 2002 01:18 AM

No PPP is either same or higher..

sounds like boost solienoid needs a clean with brake cleaner...

JGM :)

rayman 19 December 2002 09:46 AM

JGM

I think i have it sorted now, cleaned boost solienoid, pipes and adjusted the actuator 1 full turn out. The boost now stablizes to 1.1 in all gears with no hestitation. Is it healthy to run 1.1 bar in all 2nd,3rd,4th and 5th ?

:D :D :D :D
