OK, I have VNC, which is lovely, however, some of the machines I want to connect to use dialup and don't have a static IP address, which is a pain.

Is there any way I can somehow findout the IP address of one of the machines? I assume this is an impossible task, as the secuirty implications would be immense.

Don't suppose there is some way of getting the IP address from MSN is there? reason I ask is that the machines will be running MSN and a contact will be signed in.

Prob best to email me any info on this rather than post it up here.

Markus,

If you're using Windows NT, 2000 or XP, get to a command line and type ipconfig /all. This will list all the IP stack information for all of your network adapters. Look for one labeled Dialup Adapter. The IP should be right there.

If you're using Windows 95, 98 or ME click start then run and type winipcfg. Same thing as ipconfig only graphical.

To run ipconfig or winipcfg via VNC you need to know the IP address of the PC to connect to with VNC first... ;)

morpheus, thanks, but as Chris says, I'd need to be on the remote machine, or have someone there to give me this information.

I did see a natty litte thing about using MSN and sending/reciving files and have a look at the info generated, but again, someone would need to be there to accept the file.

Think the dns thingy might be a good one. Oh for the joy of Plus.net where I can have a static IP address on dialup! :D
