Ok, I know this is a non-scooby related forum and there has been a lot of discussion recently about the fuel tax issues.

BUT

Having given it a bit of thought (and no doubt being as guilty as anyone) I for one would like to keep political ranting off the board, especially any general posting along the lines of "x party is great and y party is cr*p"

Can I have your views please.

Cheers

D

Know what you mean but the thing is, this is supposed to be a public forum and just because someone might not agree with one political viewpoint, that doesn't mean it should be outlawed, or the expression of that view.

Obviously if someone is making a plainly intolerable statement dressed up as party politics then that's another matter (eg racism). Preventing people saying things like "bl00dy Labour government" etc will only lead to resentment.

It could too easily get to the stage where people don't post because they're scared of being reprimanded, which would damage the BBS far more than the odd political comment IMO. Also, there isn't that much politics generally - it's only when something like this protest blows up that people talk about it.

Cheers

IM not talking to Grey owners is political too & that is pure Subaru related.

Banning any form of discussion is ultimately political. Once we can't talk about politics, what else do we ban? Religion? Race? Freedom of thought? A General forum is a General forum and despite what some leading lights might think, the board will continue regardless of desertions. Other people will simply rise up & take their place.

Personally, as long as we keep it all in the General or NSR forums, I don't mind. This BBS does a great job of keeping all the technical forums purely technical. There is very little off-topic conversation in the specialist forums, which is why this place is so popular.

IM not talking to Grey importers is financial. If Subaru didn't talk to them, then it would be political. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

If people start posting comments that 'Party X is great', 'Party Y is total rubbish', etc most people will just ignore them anyway.

I agree with Richard F that we don't want a situation where people are worried about posting anything that is vaguely political just in case they are violating the BBS guidelines.

As long as it is kept on certain forums (or is that fora) it should be fine as it is. Censorship normally leads to problems and is quite hard to enforce.

Perhaps I should have been more specific!

What I'm not in favour of is blatant political party ranting - healthy debate is one thing (and to be encouraged).

Have edited original message to clarify!

I don't like it when people rant on about one party being fantastic and others being rubbish, but I can live with it and it definitely wouldn't stop me using the BBS.

I quite enjoyed some of the tosh that was spouted in the last ten days or so about political parties.

One of the best ones was the denial that "the tories screwed us".

Ha, ha, ha. What short memories people have.

This mob are hardly any different, arrogance, indifference, I'm alright Jack. It is modern Britain, the culmination of Mrs T's Victorian Values campaign. Crime on the streets, every damn thing done on the cheap and nasty for the lowest tender, beggars on the streets, money wasted on follys etc.

Oh, and what have the Romans ever done for US?
