I need some help. I am considering buying a television. Which ones are the best out on the market at the moment?I have a sky digital television box and need a wide screen tele. Any advice would be appreciated.

Don't buy, rent. The state of TV technology is in such flux at the moment that anything you buy now may well turn out to be a lemon in as little as 12 months.

We rent a Hitachi 32" widescreen from Granada (where we also got the Sky digital from), ring 'em up for a price. You get the option to upgrade etc almost when it suits you (within reason). Hang on to your grand.

I would suggest the biggest nastiest thing you can afford, but steer clear of rear projectors as the picture just isn't up to the clarity of the CRTs even though you'll get a bigger screen for the same money. Look at them side by side and you'll see where I'm coming from.

You can just about get a 36inch widescreen for your budget if you have the room. The Panasonic 36PF10 is on sale in my local John Lewis for £1620 - It's just taken a dive from £2k as the Sony 36inch widescreen model has just come out for about £2k and includes Dolby Surround (Panasonic is Nicam only). The Sony has a nicer user interface and a couple of extra toys that you'll never use after the first week but both tellies look the dogs nobs.

If you are running through a surround sound hi-fi setup (and you'd be daft not to with a TV of this size) then go for the Panasonic.

I bought a Hitachi 32" with Dolby Digital sound for £1450 includes 5 year cover and you get it back if you don't claim (£180.00). Model No. C32WF810N just on the market Flat screen and all the gadets you can adjust.(good for about a week's fidling with) but it's the dog's b**ll*cks.
They didn't have it store so just order what you want.

Whatecer you do DON'T buy from the normal high street outlets - buy yourself a copy of What Home Cinema magazine and have a look at the ads.

About a year ago I bought a 32" Tosh widescreen with built in Dolby Digital decoder from a dealer advertising in said magazine the list of features is (almost) endless, it will display EVERY MAJOR signal type (all the PAL,s NTSC, SECAM etc). Local high street purveyor wanted £1600, dealer in said magazine did same machine for £899 - enough said.
