Come on Ice bods help me out here :) lol

Ok given up on the install in the scoob as its too fekkin noisy even when I had my subs and amp to hear it properly, so....got round to whack my double din jobbie back in and it's got a band expander, so plugged it in and.....

Should I see the whole FM range? Or will it stay on 76-80'whatever?

Confused am I - No change there then I know :)

Or will it stay on 76-80'whatever?

Thats what the display will show geez.

mega_stream 11 December 2002 07:19 AM

I got the same prob m8 :(

Where'd you get your extender from (oo-errr :D )

S55 HOT 11 December 2002 08:27 AM

With mine, the display stays the same, so you have to add the extended number to it to get the real frequency.

Also I think they use a narrower band in Japan, so you don't get the full range - mine runs out at something like 104

TBMeech 11 December 2002 09:21 AM

G-Man, ta mate, thought it would, but having only run the original stereo for 1 day when I first bought the car, I couldnt quite remember :)

Mega, Mine was already in the car, I ripped it out when I had all my ice in there before and only got round to re-fitting it yesterday, I believe www.caraudiodiscount.com sell them, they're cheap at £15 or something :)

Alberick 12 December 2002 09:47 AM

Is this site supposed to sell fm expanders for 15GBP?
I browsed through their site but couldn't find one.....

TBMeech 12 December 2002 10:36 AM

Wasnt sure mate, this place defo sells them tho £30 a pop is a bit of a rip off:

Another one:

Worked mine out last night you have to add 18mhz to the displayed amount to get the right radio station, not a problem really just a bit pony, i.e. Radio 1 98.8 (where I am) displayed as 80.8 on my headunit, reception is fine tho.

mega_stream 14 December 2002 12:32 PM

I took my head unit out today, seems I got an extender on mine already

I can pick up radio2 on 89.1 (Which is the correct freq) but it don't go into the 90's, back into the 70's

Seems my extender aint working don't it?

TBMeech 14 December 2002 06:59 PM

John,

Is it wired in correctly?

Should just a single wire which on mine is wired to the 12v+ switched.

Doesnt sound like yours is working if it can only pick up R2, on mine i have to add 18mhz to the display to get the right stations.

mega_stream 15 December 2002 09:46 AM

Toby seems ok m8, its a bright tin box, the aerial lead plugs into it and out to the head unit, there's a 12v supply fed from the +ve lead going to the head unit so juice is going to it for sure.

Do you know if there's an adaptor to change the loom connector to a ISO (or whatever they are) we use in the UK?

TBMeech 16 December 2002 11:28 AM

Hi John,

ISO adapters you can get from Halfords, you'll have to wire it into the existing loom, if yours is as messy as mine you'll have a job on lol :)

If anybody wants band expanders i can send you them for fifteen quid including the postage. These are supposed to be amongst the best. Some come from NZ and their performance is mediocre.Just one live wire to attach and plug into the aerial socket, though the display will stay in the same range. Remember though, that you can get a reasonable front loading CD here for a hundred quid. My E mail is braco_farm@btconnect.com
