Try http://www.watford.co.uk or http://www.dabs.com they have some of the cheapest tft's around. Watford are £159 plus VAT at the moment.

Time I invested some hard-earned in a TFT monitor. Reckon a 15" one should suffice, as I understand the viewable area is roughly the same as on a 17" CRT.

Will have to be a black case in keeping with the colour scheme of existing kit, but other than that I have no idea what to look for or what makes a good/bad monitor, so am looking for pointers on whats hot and whats not.

Don't really need one with built in speakers unless I can connect them to my existing HK sub-woofer.

Actually the viewable on a 17" monitor is around 15.6-15.9" so that's a bit of a difference and definitely noticeable.

If you use it for playing games then I wouldn't recommend it. You're better of spending the cash on a decent 17" or 19" CRT. Problem is that the refresh rates aren't there yet and that anything 3D tends to finish up looking 'flat'.

PC Format did an article this month on whether it's time to get a TFT for home yet and the answer was 'No'

I've yet to see a TFT monitor that supports a resolution greater than 1024x768 - certianly Novatech don't have one in their catalogue - I'm ready to be corrected though.. ;)

We bought a whole lot of new PC's at work, so I thought I take the chance and get them spec'd with TFT screens :)

We went for the 15" Dell one's and I'm pretty impressed with the quality, but they are small especially if you're used to a 17" CRT like me.

The only handle a resolution of 1024x768 which seems to be the limit on 15" TFT's. Whether that's a technical thing or just cost related is beyond me since I've never seen any supporting higher resolutions.

I'd get down to your local PC World to check the resolution to see if you're happy with it. 17" screens a very expensive just now, so don't part with your cash until your happy. Or just borrow one from your work like me ;):)

Helped my mum buy a PC at the weekend, and due to tight space in their planned "study" we spent a few extra quid to upgrade to a TFT screen.

Proview 15" TFT, comes equipped with slimline stereo speakers either side of the screen, which means you can throw away other speakers to maximise space or make it a tidier setup.

Picture quality was easily on a par with much higher priced models.

lpitt - already have a decent 17" CRT, but need to make some space on me desk. Don't use it for gaming so fastest refresh rate not essential.

1024x768 is the norm for 15" TFT, but you can move up to 17", 18" etc, where resolutions of 1280x1024 and higher are common.

Fig - just thought I'd mention it anyway. :) Wouldn't have wanted you to buy one and then find you want more than 1024x768...

I use a resolution of 1152x864, I find that's about right for me. Now what did I type again? ;) :p
