I was until a few months ago, I had a 99 Seadoo GTX limited, but due to having kids I've done the "sensible" thing and traded it in for a Seadoo jet boat (Sportster LE).
I havent got round to putting a tow bar on the Scoob yet, we always use the wife's Cherokee for towing.

Yep i'm here '98 kwacker zxi 1100 (yellow+black) only had the scooby since beginning of year and havent got round to putting the t-bar yet but come next season i'll be there. Rik

Yamaha XL1200, usualy seen at Lee-On-Solent, behind wife's RAV 4 (with kids sitting bored on the beach !!)

At the beggining of the season I bought a wake board for a crack - good fun.

Richie have you been on any of the powerful ski jet - If not gladly take you for a blast.

Alistair - where do you use your jet boat, I'd love to have a ride.

I don't have one of my own as I'm not a great fan of the british climate and sea water conditions (used to surf for 8 years when I was younger until a friend of the family became crippled for 7 months due to something in the gower water-scientifically proven too).

BUT....when I'm on holidays, usually the canaries a couple of times a year, I'm on them all the time - costs me a bl00dy fortune though. I would recommend you get some tuition (but not essential). Most people have a mate who teaches them. The RYA do recommend courses though. Where are you??

Depends what sort of ski youre after but have a trawl through Jetskier and Personal Watercraft mag.

Alternatively if youre interested in a cracking 1995 Kawi 550sx I know where there is one and also a 650sx in mint condition!

I live in Peterborough and generally use the boat at Hunstanton which is on the Wash.

It's not one of the monster powered ones (240 HP), mines 130 HP, but that's still plenty quick enough. It's like a big jet ski really, same engine & propulsion system and handles in a similar manner, quick on to the plane and turns much more sharply than any boat.

I've got 2 kids - 3 & 2yrs, so the boat is ideal for them and most of the time is spent pulling things - I've got skis, a wakeboard, ringo, triangular shaped double ringo, aquaboggan (sit low one behind the other) and a 3 seater banana.

It's worth a go if you're thinking of buying one, but if you've jetski'd then it's not worth the effort just for the experience. It's was definitely the right thing for me, the kids love it and it's more sociable for taking out friends, but we spend about 80% of the time pulling things then while the kids eat lunch just play in the boat.

Any tips on where to look to get started, magazines, web sites etc?

I've done a bit and loved it.

I'm looking to get some tuition and then possibly buy one.

I'd be interested in any meets that didn't mind beginners having a play.

Hi All

Simon - More than happy to take you for a blast on my girly - fat boy sit down ski. As you would have pick up by reading Richie's post there are two main groups, stand up and sit down. Both are two totaly different experiances - depends what you wana get out of the sport. I started on the stand up and have progressed to a big three seater 135bhp ski. Do not for one minute think big is slow and no fun - just the opposite, 58mph and 0 - 50 in about 3-4 secs. My sit down ski enables me to ski up and down the solent, and stop off for an ice cream on the Isle of Wright !! I also tow a wake board for a bit of fun. Let me know if you can get down to Lee-on-solent and we can have the first Scooby/jet ski meet.

P.S And yes Alistair I would jump at the chance to have a go in your boat, i have a 3 and 5yr old's which do not have much fun sitting on the beach while me and the wife hav fun !!

I used to have a Yamaha wetjet 650cc 2 seater, and skied down in Poole Harbour, which was ace! Then went through a very cash-poor phase and had to sell. Now I have wee kiddies, and a ski is just not on the cards till they are good swimmers. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif

Hope you all realise i am definately tongue in cheek here! My standup has a mere 48Bhp go get a Yamaha GP1200R-3 (240 Bhp!!)should be quick enough for most occasions I reckon!

Indeed it has 155Bhp thats why I recommended a 1200R-3 at 240Bhp, gotta be worth the readies.
