Just wondering where I stand.
Out on some business yesterday, took a wrong turning into some estate, needed to reverse back and turn right to get onto main road. Check rear view mirror, look round behind me, nothing/no-one there. Proceed to reverse then bang!:( Some woman had come round the corner and I didn`t see her, she didn`t see me. Got to call insurance co tomorrow to let them know. She must have been going some speed as she came from nowhere to stuck on the end of my boot in a matter of seconds. She said...I was gonna beep but I didn`t!! Where do I stand on this?? Is it completely my fault as I was reversing on her side of the road?? Opinions/advice appreciated. Cheers Steve:( |
You reversed onto a main road?
|
I think you will be liable as you reversed onto a main road.
|
No, as I said it was an estate. I had to back up in order to get back onto the main road. Just a quiet little street.
|
Sorry for the confusion. I was in a housing estate, 25 meters from the main road. I had to reverse 10 metres in order to turn right, which leads to the junction to the main road.

Technically it doesn't matter that your were reversing, afterall it is a legit manouver that you were carrying out. What's more important is if either of you were stopped when the cars collided.
If you were stopped then she crashed into you and vice versa. |
Cheers Marty, I expect it`ll have to be a 50/50 then. We were both in motion.

Do you have legal advice with your breakdown cover? A phone call to them might give you an idea of where you stand.
