Hi
I have decided to dump my AFR in favour of a more accurate EGT. but i can find little information on them and would like some advice on which one to fit. BTW the car is an occasional toy so i dont want to spend a fortune :) :D:D Thanks [Edited by peggy - 12/3/2002 9:17:48 PM] |
Err, SPA Design? Rather than SPS? Or have you found a cheap alternative? :D

Why not keep the AFR and add an EGT if you want.
Not sure what you mean by more accurate but if you want a very accurate EGT then look at SPS Design. Lots and lots of features including max recall, switchable green or red background and variable setting flashing/audible alert and so on. I use a dual fuel press/ EGT but you have a big choice boost/EGT, temp/EGT, press/EGT |
defi is pretty, but there was something questionable about mine when we were using it. readings didnt make a lot of sense, but then it could have been under fuelling.
I wouldnt dump the afr as it responds much faster, but I would look for a wideband lambda type thing if you can. Of the egts available, SPA though not so pretty, is very well thought out and apparently more accurate. plus its digital, not analogue so is easier to more accurately resolve the reading. |
...as it leaps about all over the shop
The pro & con of digital meters, I suppose! Still, I like it. Takes up less space too. |
If you want something cheaper have a look for Westach who make aircraft gauges. Analogue EGT < £100, not as pretty though. They also do a combined EGT / CHT (cylinder-head temp) gauge.

An EGT gauge is more accurate at measuring temps than a AFR ;)
EGT is best served to monitor the happenings of Anti-lag not your fueling. |
Hypo...that would probably be becasue an AFR guage does not measure temps, it measures AFR, funnily enough.
|
Nom:The sampling frequency on the SPA Design guages is adjustable, indeed on a dual guage both sampling periods can be set separately in the range from .2 to 25 secs so the reading does not have to jump about and can be set to accomodate the needs of most individuals.
With this facility it is possible to record a boost spike at say 32psi but never see more than 28psi on the actual instrument with a setting of around .4 secs sampling. |
For an instrument lay out look here. www.tyneteesscoobies.comand click on owners cars.

Hence the the wink Stevie.
I think Peggy was suggesting that an EGT gauge would give a more accurate reflection of tuning then what the AFR gauge would, which it won't. Harvey, are you monitoring your pre/post intercooler temps with an SPA gauge? |
Monitor ambient and throttlebody inlet temps.
Quite interesting if you are interested in that sort of thing!!! |
