When u wanna push it (on public roads), on the bends its 'slow in, fast out' (especially in the wet! i.e. the next few months). Now repeat after me......unless of course you wanna drive like a nutter like the rest of us :D

good year f1's or toyos

don't over rev it if it is standard, pointless. change up at about 5.5 k revs. oh and get yourself a dumpvalve for less turbo lag and the obviuos joy it will bring you round town! :D

say to ,yourself that you will never mod it, and do exactly the opposite within about a day of coming on this board! :D

pop it into 1st gear before you go into reverse to stop it dragging in as you engage reverse.

uprate the brakes and fit braided hosing as the first mod you are not going to do! :D ;)

DON'T change down to hard as this strains the turbo (or so i am told, and i am inclined to believe this) - change down so that the engine is running at no more than 3 grand when you have completed the change, about where you want to be for lift off any way!

oh and get some pain killers to ease the jaw muscles - you will be grinning like a chimp on acid!

another believer - whoo-hoo! :p

barge 02 December 2002 07:46 PM

Dont park the car in a lake

yoza 02 December 2002 07:59 PM

Allways drive with your "driving lights" on...........
Otherwise known as fog lights :)
Yoza "fog light terrorist"

LG John 02 December 2002 08:07 PM

Dont race, don't drive fast, don't go round corners faster than 10mph, you must get driver training, you must do track day, .....

Alternatively you could make your own decisions as to what is right or wrong! Your money and your car, just remember if you push it too far then plod might take your license from you or physics might take your life from you. Tis up to you :D

pcdude 02 December 2002 10:35 PM

right think i get the general idea chaps

thx PAul :)

LG John 02 December 2002 10:57 PM

'slow in, fast out'
Why does everyone keep saying this? Yes that's the safest way for public roads but if we're talking track driving or driving like a nutter it isn't the fastest/best. The scooby's engine is mounted low and with bumpsteer and geometry has useful turn in, I like to use that turn in.

BOB.T 02 December 2002 11:00 PM

Put an egg under your throttle so you don't get too carried away, keep your tank over 3/4 full, don't lift off the throttle mid bend (though quite why you'd be using the throttle round a bend, which you've just walked round to check for obstacles is beyond me), dump your clutch at regular intervals to avoid judder and ask what the bright button does and you'll be fine:)

Kingsize K2 02 December 2002 11:06 PM

DO enjoy the thing and make sure any work done is by people recommended on this board. There are too many "experts" out there who think they know what is best for your car. Research any mods throughly before taking the plunge.

DO NOT listen to pslewis. Gold wheels are the way forward :D

LG John 02 December 2002 11:08 PM

ROTFLMFAO :D That is just class :D

Amanda-Jane 02 December 2002 11:10 PM

Class Bob!!!!! :D

AJ

Adam M 02 December 2002 11:26 PM

use super unleaded and get yourself an aftermarket fuel pump before doing any mods.

Jolly Green Monster 2 02 December 2002 11:38 PM

Stay below 3,000rpm until the engine is warm, and let it tick over for at least a minute if just been on boost before switching off or drive the last mile or so off boost (below 3,000rpm).

Use a good synthetic 15W50 oil...

Enjoy

JGM :)

Ski Ned 02 December 2002 11:46 PM

driver the fcuker fast - the way its supposed to be. be carefull not to kill yourself.

also make sure you have a st georges flag on the car somewhere.

TonyBurns 02 December 2002 11:48 PM

Kenny,
the "slow in, fast out" is actually the best way to drive on the roads as if you make an error of judgement and go in too fast and then brake (and the rear then steps out) your pretty ****ed (especially if there is something coming the other way  )
It also gives you the best progressive grip (rather than go straigh in fast and trying to stay there when your on the edge of the grip and sliding which isnt that fast as your loosing traction by going sideways ;))

Tony:D

LG John 02 December 2002 11:56 PM

Best way on the roads I agree but there are some corners where you can see round - nice open highland roads for example :D Therefore I say stick her in with lots of speed if you can see you don't need margin for error or if your just mental!

:D

SiPie 03 December 2002 09:37 AM

:D

Questioning my sanity again Mr MacLeod ? ;)

On a more serious note, my 2p's worth in answer to pcdude's question.

a)make sure your tyres are 100% with good tread/correct pressures and NEVER mix and match. :)

b)Although their reputation is brilliant these cars are nowhere near invincible, they have a nasty habit of inspiring confidence beyond your abilities then bite you right on the ass :(

c)Wave goodbye to ever having any savings ever again

Therefore I say stick her in with lots of speed if you can see you don't need margin for error or if your just mental!
Just don't take your foot off the pedal when doing this though :D

Katana 03 December 2002 09:52 AM

Don't rely too much on your radar detector and laser jammers. Its got no defence against VASCAR and stuff like that.

Also, avoid Sainsbury's, Tesco and other Supermarket carparks unless you want some "free bodywork" by soccer moms and idiots..

ChrisB 03 December 2002 10:00 AM

NEVER mix and match.
Within reason...

image doctor 03 December 2002 10:21 AM

Be of the attitude that you have the fastest car on the road. Don't let anyone tell you different, and even if they prove they have a faster car with data verified by NASA then reply "ah haa, but my car is faster in the twisties"

SiPie 03 December 2002 10:22 AM

Chris B

Know what you mean re the mix and match but for a while I had new Yokohamas on the back and relatively new SO2's on the front.

Interesting combination, to say the least

Sure some combinations work but personally always feel happier with 4 all the same :)

mattstant 03 December 2002 11:25 AM

avoid avons like the plague and if you want good tyres at a good price go for toyos which are are superb all round (for the price)

AliWrx 03 December 2002 12:26 PM

Never ever speed, ever!

No one on here speeds, or indeed enjoys their cars.

If you do get caught speeding come on here and ask for some advice....

You will always get some freindly advice. ;)

Buy yourself a flamesuit as well...you may well need it.

Ali :D :D

Oh yeah and never listen to word i say.

Enjoy!

Flyboy-F33 03 December 2002 02:34 PM

Reading Saxo-Boys previous comment about slow in-fast out not being the best for track etc etc. Just goes to prove why you got flamed previously when you went on about not having anything to learn about quick driving! Anyone who has competed in motorsport will confirm that slow in-fast out is nearly always the quickest way to get around any bend (always the odd exception).

ice man 03 December 2002 02:36 PM

Flyboy surely it's fast in fast out lift foot off throttle - panic as back end comes past you then plant the scoob in the road side :D

pcdude 03 December 2002 02:44 PM

guys wot a " compromise " FAST IN AND EVEN FASTER OUT ;)

cheers Paul

Turboteeth 03 December 2002 06:52 PM

DO.....

Get a Scoobysport backbox, decat centre and downpipe
Get a set of decent tyres
Clean your car every weekend
Cruise slowly around your home town with just sidelights and fogs on

DON'T.....

Get a really loud VTA dump valve
Put 6x9s in the back shelf, sub in the boot and 4 x 800w amps
Swerve to avoid horses and end up rolling your pride & joy
