It would appear that Litchfield imports are trawling through the BBS and e-mailing people about cars they have for sale - I was looking and did buy an STi V about a year ago - since then I have made no requests from anyone for information of a commercial or otherwise nature about buying a car let alone an STi VI that might be avilable in a couple of months. They are also using Moray Mackensie and Rich/Dirk at PowerStation as references to their good name - I hope they have your permission to do this guys.

I apologies for any offence caused in emailing you about the STI 6. I regularly read the BBS and noticed your question about buying a WRX in the south of England, this thread had only recently been opened, what I forgot (stupidly) to notice was that you posted your original question some time ago.

Both Moray and Rich/Dirk are more than happy for me to use them as references.

Once again I apologies for upsetting you http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif

If you read the thread properly you would see that I raised my question on:-

So someone has recently re-opened the thread...... and Cheltenham by my reckoning not in the South East either......

Robbie,

Did you consult me before abusing (in my view) my name here? I think not! You couldn't even get the spelling right! However, I don't think I will achieve anything by being over-sensitive and over-reacting about this, other than causing needless friction. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif

I have found the original thread, which has indeed resurfaced recently because of new postings from other users. I can see how the mix up has occurred. This is quite obviously a simple mistake for which IainLit has now apologised.

(*** Rhetorical think bubble question ***)
I wonder if you would have reacted in such a manner if the thread you initiated had been current and you were actively looking for a car?
(*** Rhetorical think bubble question ***)

I don't like unsolicited mailings, but I won't go over the deep end if it's obviously a simple mistake.

For the record, I don't have any connection with Litchfield Imports other than being a satisfied customer.

If you wish to continue this discussion with me, I hereby give you time-limited (before 25/02/2000) permission to send one (1) e-mail message to the address that is listed in my profile so that people can contact me, if they want/need to! I reserve the right to ignore/delete/recycle as firelighters any e-mail sent to me that I don't like. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

PS, I like the @Grumpy*******.com bit! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

I quoted directly from the sales spods spam about you being up for recomending them - not sure where you get the line that I am slagging you off - I merely questioned if this chap had got your permission to endorse his products. As he could have sold you a car and not asked for your permission to use your name as a reference as he gave no indication in his mail that he had done so. Your name in no way has been besmirched. I suggest you reread the original - I was not in any way shape or form indicating or implying you had any connection to this company.

Yes I would have reacted in exactly the same way. Companies who send out SPAM get little sympathy from me. At least in the US there are laws against such stuff.

I am sorry but UCE is one of the most abhorrent practices on the Internet - most organisations try and hide behind pseudo addresses. It is just nice to get the opportunity to stamp out the practice when they don't do this. I have had several instances where I have been targetted by importers who have got hold of my email address from this BBS and I think it is poor form - if this bloke wanted to help then why not just add his thruppence to the bottom of the BBS posting so everyone could benefit.

Robbie,

You could edit your profile to disable display of your e-mail address and go ex-directory, as it were. This would preserve your privacy better than giving the general public direct access to your address, as you currently do.

Robbie,

I just read your response...

I feel you were using my name, and others, to further your assault on this company. You hadn't attempted to mail me and maybe ask for another viewpoint on the situation, yet you appear to have assumed the company concerned had, in some way, been using my name in some underhanded way. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif

I suspect that if he had posted to the BBS, rather than direct to you, he could have ended up being slated by many bbs users, ala BPM. I think, given the circumstances, assuming he hadn't made the date-of-post mistake, he wasn't being unreasonable. After all, you did request information re import cars in the first place.

Reminder: I have offered you the opportunity to continue the discussion off-line, as it isn't exactly the most relevant use of BBS bandwidth, is it!

"Sales spods", Oh well, who is it that has now degraded the discussion to the level of name calling? Quite frankly, I don't care anymore because my cars quicker than yours, so there! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

I have NOT implied that you work for this company, support their use of UCE, all I did was question and raise the point that had they asked for your permission to use you as a reference to their service - you have pointed out that you are happy with this situation - I have apologised to you if you feel you have been slated but I can assure you my sole intention in metioning your name was to bring it to your attention. There is a commercial section to the BBS now - which this chap could have posted to instead if he was concerned about not appearing to do another 'BPM'. But as I have said before you shouldn't feel that your name is tarnished in anyway.

Anyway this is boring.

Based on the rest of this thread, I bet you always have to have the last word as well! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif

Go on, prove me wrong! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif
