JN - Care to qualify your opinion? e.g why is it better than WS FTP Pro, par exemple?

i use either cute ftp (very good tho a little ott) or for a real basic, dead simple, non resource gobbling monster try windows commander.

Very nice and easy to use and doesnt require 128 meg to run it :)

super_si 30 November 2002 02:00 PM

Like a dream ;) didnt like my firewall, i remember how annoying deleting folders is with this!!

have to delete files within then the folder :(

7 Directory "/htdocs/pics" created.
CWD pics

XCWD pics

CWD /htdocs/pics

XCWD /htdocs/pics

ChrisB 30 November 2002 05:51 PM

Puff The Magic Wagon! 30 November 2002 06:16 PM

Chris - I've got that! Can you temporaily change the password on your site so I can d/load that 165mb file without http time outs please! ;)

super_si 30 November 2002 06:22 PM

gimme a url ill try it :D

HHxx 30 November 2002 06:37 PM

Terrapin Ftp lol.

The crowd goes wild ;) you'll see..

But mostly use WS FTP Pro :)

STi-Frenchie 30 November 2002 07:43 PM

Another vote for CuteFTP - I found it to be much faster than WS-FTP Pro...and things are just SO much easier.

Be alert about the programs you are downloading as some of the lesser-known ones may contain Spyware. Early versions of Cute contained dodgy add-ons.

I always check here if there's any doubt.

ChrisB 30 November 2002 08:28 PM

Not with you Puff. Presume you mean SP3 on our download page? Password?

Fuzz 01 December 2002 12:06 AM

ok so what's the joke regarding terrapin then ?

Andy, I downloaded this the other day as I needed a ftp client pronto so thought I try this one out. When the ftp tranfer completed the computer played a sound file of crowd cheering.

Well it amused me

Excuse me - but you're all wrong :) The best is SmartFTP - http://www.smartftp.com/

Regards
James

super_si 01 December 2002 11:01 AM

I dont like that fact you cant delete folders from the top level

Hammy Hamster 01 December 2002 11:23 AM

I dont like that fact you cant delete folders from the top level
I assume you mean that SmartFTP can't do this (I can't try it as I don't have it), because you can do it in WS FTP Pro.

James Neill 01 December 2002 11:26 AM

You mean you're not gonna just take my word :)

Because of the bandwidth selector - it was a life saver when we had to transfer 400 MB files to a server (from the US to Germany) over the company WAN without it saturating the network.

Also - is the only one I could get working reliably through the company proxy

It also looks pretty!

super_si 01 December 2002 11:28 AM

nar its ws. it tells me..

125 Using existing ASCII mode data connection for /bin/ls (330 bytes).
transferred 330 bytes in < 0.001 seconds, 2578.125 Kbps ( 322.266 KBps), transfer succeeded.
Allow deletion of non-empty folders is disabled

answerd my own question i think ;)

James Neill 01 December 2002 11:30 AM

SmartFTP can delete folders from the top level - I just checked

Hammy Hamster 01 December 2002 11:31 AM

It also looks pretty!
Oh dear, I was almost beginning to believe you until you said that!

James Neill 01 December 2002 11:37 AM

Lets settle it :)
