Whilst returning home last night from a local meet, a friend followed me home, and commented that on a couple of occassions I had sparks flying out the back of my exhaust. On the first occassion it was quite extensive and quote "like someone had chucked a fag out the window the way they spread across the road", and the second time was quite minor.

The car didn't feel as though is was running badly, and driving it today it still feels the same. Anybody have any suggestions as to what this might have been? The sparks only happened on over-run/braking and the car is a full decat if that helps any.

I've told you before mate not to leave your crafty fag dog ends up your pipe so the missus doesn't find out ;) :D

In all seriousness though - I was following, looked just like a fag chucked on the road but came from the exhaust. After the initial burst a few smaller ones dribbled out then it stopped. I'm thinking carbon build up from the exhaust heating up and coming out, but anyone got any other ideas?

I had this on a rolling road day and it concerned me :(

I asked what it was fearing the worst and was told that it is all the rubbish coming off of the inside of the exhaust (carbon, gunk etc) and igniting due to extreme heat.

I was happy with that explanation because it made perfect sense to me, after all, it's not that often that i rev up to 6000rpm + and hold it for 30 secs or more :D

I was thinking the worst and thought that there were gonna be some sharp intakes of breath between clenched teeth ala scoobynet stylie but all was well and still is :D

Mikey

Mikey - cheers for that. I'm hoping this is the case, but you just never know! I guess if I'd got a flamer kit I could burn all that kind of stuff off sooner!! ;):D

I agree with gridlock mikey, it will be red hot carbon deposits from inside of the exhaust system..!!
