Hello people in 2-3 weeks I will have about 8K to buy a scooby with but I dont know that much about them, What would I look out for when looking at a car and how long do the turbos last (mileage) and how long does the average engine last in terms of mileage, would also be handy to know where all the rust hangs around all help very welcome.

Also looking out for any suitible car.

You may get a bit more response to the firs part in the "general" forum. I bought a Scoob (a cheap one ;) ) about a year ago. There is no sign of rust yet. Engines seem to go on for quite some time. I have heard about some 200k milers still on the go! The big thing is the maintainance and not doing any really silly tuning that will make it run lean. A properly maintained (I mean pampered ;)) Scoob will nearly go on for ever.

For a general overview of Imprezas a good place to start is the SIDC FAQ

Keep looing, as there are some good examples out there, even at £8k. Just be careful with insurance - it's not cheap!!

Welcome to the site as well. I'm sure you will get plenty more responses.

Nick,

Good money well spent. As for rust, I don't think it's a real problem, I haven't seen any posts on here about rust problems.

The turbo will last a long time as long as you remember to idle the engine after a thrash to let it cool down or drive steadily for a few miles (preferable).

Keep up the oil changes at least every 7500 miles and get the servicing done by someone who knows what they are doing.

Other than that enjoy racking the miles up and watching the petrol guage go down.
