Has anyone owned or been in one of these? Any thoughts? Any responses appreciated.

As you have said any responses ;)

Its basically a 944 underneath, and still has the same interior. One of the best and most powerful 4 pots in the world. Go for the sport model, but if you can do without creature comforts the club sport.

:)

Thanks davyboy.
I guess I know a bit already: 3 litre, 4 cylinder, 5 valves per cylinder in later models, 240 bhp, Club Sport 0-60 in 6.1 0-100 15.5 ish and stripped out with bucket seats but back seats etc available as options. Sport version less hardcore but the most popular one sold in the UK. 1993 Performance Car of the Year etc etc. What I was really looking for though was an opinion from someone here who can offer some more first hand exprience or compare it to a Scooby for example.

I did consider one myself.......then went out in a 944 Turbo.

End of story.

I would still like to have a go on track in a 968 CS though.

I have been around Snetterton as a passenger in a 986CS.

I think we did over 20 laps and it was drivers choice to come in for a rest. The car was more than up to the job!

I have always liked the 968 but the only let down is the engine noise. It just isn't that special if you are used to the Scoob or the sound of a 6 cylinder.

Check out the "GT Purely Porsche" magazine this month (the edition with a new silver Boxster on the cover. The have a review of the 968CS and mention that there are some problems with the timing gear which could lead to big bills but otherwise it's well up to the job.

I don't think any of the 968 models had 5 valves per cylinder. The engine in them is effectively the 944 S2 motor (3 litre 16 Valve 4-Cylinder). The car was going to be called the 944S3.

It's just that I read in the EVO buyers guide something like 'if it's the 20 valve version etc etc' in the engine section...
Anyone else shed any light on this?

I don't think they ever made a 5v/cyl version of that engine :)

IIRC, from the 944 on, there is the 2.5L NA (8v), 2.5L turbo (8v), 2.5L NA (16v on the 944S), 2.7L NA (8v, for North America, it's the '89 model), 3.0L NA (16v S2, 968), and whatever the engine is on the 968 turbo (2.5 or 3.0 8v turbo IIRC).

I was going to buy a 44 turbo last year until the maint. cost scared me away :p Still constantly on my mind though :D
