Hi,
My 3-door is acting up. Well at least I THINK its acting up, it could all be in the mind. Thats why I'm asking the following.
I'm running a Bailey Piston Dump Valve and recently it started to leak a black fluid out of the opening with the piston/ram. Its not oil though, It feels like grease but it now started to splatter the inside of the bonnet. Could the turbo be on the way out?
Also, I recently replaced the standard bushes with Polyurethane jobs. Now the suspension has started creaking. It like a rubber on metal creak though so I'm thinking its the bushes. Is there any way of lubricating them so that they stop creaking? I'm running the black ones (I think there group N jobs) on the rear trailing arms if that helps.
Cheers in advance for any advice.
astraboy.

that black fluid will be oil....there isnt anything else it can be......its either your turbo is fcuked or your breather is blocked/not good enough

as for the bushes.......use either copper grease or rubber grease.....or even silicone spray but not oil/grease because it degrades rubber

well when I last had it dyno'd (a while back) at PE Mervin said I had a lot of in and out movement on the spindle so I think it'll be new turbo time.
oooooh, hybrid or standard?

Try a dry graphite based grease, like that used for claw type caliper slide pins on your bushes, It cured a similar problem on my MkI Golf rear beam bushes:)

If you're still selling, put the cheapest turbo option on.

Astraboy

I had that on my poly bushes on my xr4x4 when it was wet. Just lubricate them and they should be ok. As for your dump valve issue I am no expert but I did observe that your car was smoking like turbo smoke so I reckon your turbo is the issue :( For the way you drive the car mate and the engine spec I wouldn't go the hybrid route because it would be total overkill and probably not that much fun, hybrids in my experience don't come on boost until 3,500 rpm and are very laggy under that. Try cleaning your breathers etc and see how she runs. I don't know if oil coming from the dump valve is a problem but my mates old cossie did that too (but he did fcuk his turbo in the end):o

Astraboy,

You still running the standard breather? If so, it could be chucking tons of oil through the system, and the turbo! Last year, I emptied mine, and oil literally pured out the i/c....

And if you go for a turbo, go for a nice T34, .48 a/r - it's less laggy than my T3!!!!!!!!!!!

astraboy 20 November 2002 08:55 PM

yes I thought it could be the breather. But I'm bracing myself for new turbo time.
As its better to uprate rather than replace, I'm also looking for a set of light greens, a RS500 I/C, Hybrid T3 turbo, chip and breather system.
Well 310bhp would be rude not to really :D

CrisPDuk 20 November 2002 10:45 PM

I assume you sorted the old fella out then and are keeping the car:)
