Looking at wheel specs I see sizes such as 17x7 or 18x8. I understand that the 17 or 18 is the diameter, but what is the other dimension? Is that the depth?

Thinking of replacing the standard wheels on my blue (such a Mupper I don't even know what blue it is - not dark blue) MY98 UK Turbo.

Would like some gold ones - sorry I like them :D Have good tyres at the moment and dont really want to get into spring changes and geometry setup. What equivalent size to the OEM wheels do I need? I know they are 16" but not what 16X?? is compatible?

Also, how long is a length of string, no - really... what do you reckon would look nice on my car? I like the Prodrive 7 and the Superleggera but I think I have to go up to 17" at least?

Some suggestions, (pics?) and advise please

Cheers

Matt

the second bit after 17" or 18" is the width of the wheel - how wide the tyre is. Too many questions, but as to how long is a piece of string, in fact how long is a Chinaman...

Matt, standard wheels are 16x7in with 53mm off-set. The Prodrive upgrades are 17x7in with 52mm off-set. The lower the off-set number the further the wheel sticks out. This is important as anything under 50mm risks rubbing on the outer rear arches. A lot of people get away with 48mm off-set, others don't, probably down to different tyres (the size they're marked is nominal not actual!).

If you're going for new wheels, 17in will improve handling due to lower profile tyres. You want 215/40x17. Toyo T1-S or Goodyear F1 are the favourites. Why not go 17in with new tyres and save the 16in wheels for when you sell?

Cheers,

Richard.

You cant be a 'dosser' to buy those - that looks like a month's hard graft mate!

Did u go from 16" to 18"? The ride must be a bit harsher, but worth it yes?
