Nice work Andy

fatherpierre 13 November 2002 10:11 PM

There's no saying she'd have survived if the strike hadn't taken place.

And firemen left the strike to assist.

bug-eyed wonder 13 November 2002 10:14 PM

The report said the appliance reached in 9 minutes. Pure speculation if it would have been any different pre strike. Nice/timely/sick bit of propaganda for Tony Blair I think!

ps Don't support the 40% pay claim either.

Scooby Snax 13 November 2002 10:19 PM

not the armys fault just some sh!te news to fill a gap!

dont support the strike BTW.

Luke 13 November 2002 10:21 PM

next time we go to war.... Send the Firemen!!! Do we get a refund on our council tax????

pslewis 13 November 2002 10:22 PM

They have SERIOUSLY misread the mood of the public!!

Pete

uncle buck 13 November 2002 10:23 PM

And firemen left the strike to assist.
Perhaps they realised what total tw@ts they are being?

PS Hope you sleep well tonight Chairman Gilchrist

Luke 13 November 2002 10:24 PM

next time you pass the smug gits outside "OUR" fire stations show them how you feel. (First finger to thumb, with quick up and down movement of hand)

fatherpierre 13 November 2002 10:25 PM

Or perhaps they are caring professionals.

I too am not in favour of the strike, but their pay is sh!te.

popeye 13 November 2002 10:27 PM

Awwww.. what's the matter? I thought this was a job that any moron could do? The only thing they've misread is how many cretins there are in this country, but I doubt they'll lose any sleep over that.

bug-eyed wonder 13 November 2002 10:30 PM

Agree 100% pslewis and all! Drove past my local station earlier (town in centre of Ulster). They had their cars parked along the front of the station and standing around a make shift fire to keep themselves warm. The firefighters were holding placards to get motorists to "beep" in support, not one single car in the line I was in acknowledged them! £30K in a rural town in NI they must be joking!

pslewis 13 November 2002 10:34 PM

Popeye - you will lose this one my man!!

Firemen do not need brains - just be brave - its a lot safer than it was!

If they live in the South then they should get about £21000. BUT, anywhere else its £15000 lads and be bloody grateful! Oh, yes, AND throw out those 'easy, easy' working conditions!! while they are not working ( 95% of their time!) get them out sweeping the streets!

Why should they get the same as, say, a QUALIFIED Engineer??? who has trained for 5 years - and I mean people with brains NOT brawn!!

Get back to work or get sacked!!

Pete

There is 11% on the table FFS!!!! Retiring at 50 on 66% of your final salary - INDEX LINKED  The world has changed boys, YOU need to, grow up - smell the burning!!

BOB.T 13 November 2002 10:35 PM

I agree that it's unfortunate that the lady in question has died but as mentioned above, there's no way of knowing whether or not she would of survived even if the regulars had attended. I think this shows the media being biased and sensationalist.... if that's a word!:D

I think the lads do deserve more money but 40% is taking the p*ss and striking is even worse:rolleyes:

Did anyone see the news just now? It looked like a gang of lads in Liverpool had torched a Fiesta, just for the laugh and to see a green goddess, the w*nkers were even stood there laughing at the soldiers, I just wanted to batter the little sh*ts

uncle buck 13 November 2002 10:41 PM

I don't understand thier logic at all

Thay all say

"the last thing I want to do is put peoples' lives and property at risk"
...but they're speaking from a picket line

Dream Weaver 13 November 2002 10:42 PM

Wonder how one of the firemen would feel if one of his/her relatives died as a result of there being no-one to cut them out of an RTA :(

All for the sake of a few extra pence to spend down the pub of a weekend. They dont earn that little do they FFS :(

RichiW 13 November 2002 10:44 PM

I`m with Pete sack `em and train up the army boys, then train up those who have their names on the waiting list to join the Fire service!

Rich.

[Edited by RichiW - 11/13/2002 10:44:37 PM]

popeye 13 November 2002 10:45 PM

Lewis - it takes 4 years training before firemen get even 21k, which, in my opinion, is not enough for a job where you are risking your life. It *should* pay more than a "qualified" engineer in my opinion. Who gives a toss if an engineer doesn't turn up to work? I assume by a qualified engineer, and somebody with "brains", you are refering to your good self - although judging by the utter rubbish you've posted here over the past few years, I hardly think you fall into that category. And I assume you have got "brawn", as I seem to remember that all the discussions we've had in the past resulted in you throwing your teddy and threatening to beat me up.

Next!

fatherpierre 13 November 2002 10:45 PM

But I doubt there are 18000 on the waiting list.

And I know from personal experience that the armed forces don't want to be doing that sh!t!

uncle buck 13 November 2002 10:48 PM

Agree with RichiW.

popeye - throwing teddy competition. you win by miles mate :p

popeye 13 November 2002 10:51 PM

Uncle buck - I said, next!

pslewis 13 November 2002 10:53 PM

Beat you up!! ha ha ha wouldnt waste my energy ;)

As I have said earlier firemen are on £202 an HOUR!!! if you pay for when they bl00dy well actually WORK!!!

And as for an Engineer, yes I mean like me - why should they even come close?? You get 40 applicants for each firefighters jobs FFS - NON for my job!!! Let market forces decide!!

Sack the lot and hire the others who want the job, train them up - take on the 75% who would break the strike - and off we go

Go on Prescott - sort em out

Do they realise that if they lose - which they WILL - then they will get 4% AND will HAVE to sort out their cosy working practises!!

And, popeye - you can go shove your opinion up your hairy 4rse people are going to DIE for the GREED of these T055ers :D

Pete

Scooby Snax 13 November 2002 10:55 PM

go on Pete! http://www.stopstart.freeserve.co.uk/smilie/box.gif

fatherpierre 13 November 2002 10:56 PM

Simplistic PS.

If a fire(s) required it, they'd work until they could physically not carry on.

pslewis 13 November 2002 10:58 PM

Of course they would - they have been asleep for 8 hours (ON DUTY!!) FFS!!!!

Pete

ChrisB 13 November 2002 10:58 PM

But I doubt there are 18000 on the waiting list.
Yup! A friend of mine recently applied to every country around them and not one was recruiting.

I note most of the Retained Firefighters haven't gone on strike though (at least according to some diagrams I saw on the TV Tuesday night)

ChrisB 13 November 2002 11:04 PM

http://www.rfuonline.co.uk/main/ipswichstar.htm

A DRAMATIC split emerged today in the Fire Brigades Union in Suffolk after a whole section quit rather than take strike action.

The Evening Star has learned that, in an unprecedented move, 16 control room staff at fire service headquarters in Ipswich have resigned from the union.

They tore up their membership cards because they were not prepared to take action which could put lives – or property – at risk.

http://www.rfuonline.co.uk/main/pressrelease031002.htm

And the header image on http://www.rfuonline.co.uk/ says

"Proud to be Saving Lives"

We should toot to support these men and women!

Daz34 13 November 2002 11:05 PM

Lewis - You really are such a smug opinionated moron with such a sad lack of knowledge of the facts - I reckon you should have your own late night show on Talk Radio ;-)

C h a z 13 November 2002 11:06 PM

Have to agree with pslewis on this one. Surely the firemen knew what the pay was when they decided to become a fireman? I know this doesn't take into account those who have been in the job for a long time, but it must cover those who have joined in the last couple of years. I can't see how someone who started a job knowing that they were going to earn 21k could then complain that that is what they were going to get paid.

ChrisB - the voice of reason at last :D:D good news :D

popeye 13 November 2002 11:09 PM

No applicants for your job Lewis? Why, what does the advert say? "Wanted, appalling moron - Lack of intelligence essential. Must have spent numerous hours posting unfunny crap on Scoobynet"? As I've said, it's funny how you think that people are going to DIE when the firemen are on strike, but firemen have "cosy" working practices. I mean, I know you fancy yourself as a "wind up" merchant, but there's a fine line between being good at wind-ups and just being a clueless tw@t. Nonetheless, I still have hope for you Lewis.
