Right, as its my first post here, i'll keep it short, I'm currently romping around in a 150k, 1992 Mk2 Golf GTi 16V . and although she's running great. A new job has let my wallet open up a whisker more. My brother owned a 99 Prodrive turbo and of course I took a shine to the thing.

I've got about 5K to spend on an earlyish Uk Turbo 4 door.manual.
Can you tell me when the major interior change occured? As idealy, thats what i want. and any mechanical evolutions and 'versions' Which is the pick of the litter?

Really appreciate your advice....as i know dick all about them. ...apart from the obligatory blindness.

Hi Golfer -Welcome to Scoobynet, the best advise i could give is save a few more pennys as you would be very lucky to find anything for around 5k let alone anything decent!!!!

£7 got me my 93 wrx wagon- 42K miles
if you want a cheaper option buy a jap import-more powerful but more difficult to insure.

the major interior change hapened in 1998, so I dont think that you would get one for 5k, In fact you would have to be lucky to find any decent one for 5k, all the info that you need can be found in the subaru impreza FAQ's.
You might be better off going on a crime spree for a while in order to get a bit more money, and keeping an eye out on this forum for some well looked cars at very reasonable prices, hope this helps and good luck.

low miles are essential if you are gonna buy an older one, like myself. they are very expensive to run - hundreds of pounds a month believe me.

don't want to discourage you, as they are fan-BLOODY-tastic motorcars - but your golf is far less expensive on the whole for example. i have a pug 205 gti still and i could run two or three to one scoob!

Golfer, how old are you mate?
Cos if youre knockin on +25 and got a clean licence, go for an import,(touch wood) i havent had a bit of a problem with my 94 wrx wagon either, except for a clutch (shes done 75k so, comon!) and if you can budjet for +£50 a week for fuel then get yourself one and join the party!!!

Dont try and run these cars on a budget they eat consumbales and drink fuel. Spent a fortune on mine and it still looks standard (ish). Small interim service (every 6 months) is going to cost you £120, 12 months service anything from 250 to 600 (depends on whats changes and what service). Tyres should be swapped in fours and you dont want to know how much brakes disks, pads and clutches are.
