All,

this is linked with the 'STI 7 Using Oil' thread......Is it the same with WRX?

People STI 7 experiences vary from 'uses none' to 'requires topping up every x miles'. This difference is usually attributed to how the engine has been treated while new (Running in period) but has anyone actually got proof? Are people experiencing problems with low mileage engines that use oil?

Also, people say their cars used some oil while running in and first few thousand miles but this reduced to virtually nil as mileage increased? Is this the result of rings, valves etc bedding in and therefore sealing better?

So what do you people think?.

i would "hope" that after a running in period, the engine oil consumption will reduce, as that is one of the reasons for the first service with scoobies being set at 1k and no higher. This flushes all the swarf out and then eliminates the usage of oil to run such out and all the rings and bearing in, so to speak. Consumption wise, could use up to 1ltr in doing so

Mine (MY01 Wagon + ppp) used very little for the first 1,000 miles and then zero for the next 9,000 miles.

Dont forget this is a critical time for the engine, run it in properly and there should be no problem.

Mine (MY00) used quite a bit in first 1000 miles (about half way down the dipstick). Then consumption slowed and has stopped altogether after 15k oil change (now on 30k)

Not sure why, but must be something to do with bedding in, because it was also quicker by 15k as well.
