I feel sorry for the small birds and local wild life that are likely to get sucked in while driving through country lanes!
Looks pretty god damn cool though. (if you squint a little and look the other way:-)) |
This pic has one of the best angles of the new scoop that Iīve ever seen. Looks a bit like a small concert hall :D
As earlyed demonstrated by Sniff Petrol :D http://www.sniffpetrol.com/issue032.html |
The scoops on the standards MY03 WRX's are nicely blended into the bonnet as they are at the moment, but the new STi scoop is hideous IMHO.
Cheers, Rob. |
I agree, still I prefer the MY01/MY02 Scoop.
Might have something to do with being a MY02 owner :D |
Yep, hideous.

I like it, looks really aggressive, it is quite large, but that camera angle makes it look massive. Well technically it should increase air flow to the intercooler and hence performance??

Looks like something out of Mad Max!!! :D:D
|
it looks like an absolute joke, if i bought 1 it would have to have std wrx scoop.
|
Here you lot go again. This is how the whole bugeye thing started, now look at the value of your Impreza! I just wish everyone found being positive as easy as negative.

Guys,
I think the scoop has been made like that for a reason! I have done some research of my own using CFD (computational fluid dynamics) where i modelled a scoob bonnet and scoop. It was found that at speeds over 80 mph a lot of turbulence is created at the lip of the scoop thus not allowing so much air to enter. This causes charge temps to rise. I wonder what happens next?? At speeds over 90-100mph the turbulence is not so bad BUT what hapens is that the flow of air is directed to the back of the intercooler so the front part of the core doesnt get much flow. I havent properly seen the MY03 scoop but hopefully they have modified it to increase flow and distribute it more evenly. Cheers Gez |
Dont they produce drag though???
As it must affect the aerodynamics. |
I'm curious to know if the 03 scoops have the same foot print as the 01/02 scoops...
Umm about the aerodynamics, have you seen the front of the car? The car more bludgens it way through the air rather than slice.;) |
I like it :D

Interesting findings. The STI-7 has a 'splitter' to divert the airflow over the entire intercooler rather than over most of it like the standard WRX and 'Classic' turbos. I did have one fitted to my old MY00 and found it made a measurable difference in 'feel' in the summer, but had little effect in winter. Their effectiveness was debated at great length a year or so ago but they must do some good otherwise Subaru would'nt have fitted them as standard to the STI-7. I've not seen a close up of the STI-8 scoop to see if they've fitted a splitter to that as well |
MY01/02 STi owners generally hate it.
MY00 and earlier ignore it, but think it still has bad front lights MY03 soon to be owners - they love it, better than all the other models. see any pattern here? |
It doesn't bother me... in fact I quite like it.
Although according to the above post I don't count.... MY01 WRX owner!;) |
If it stops people melting their pistons after sustained high-speed runs, then surely it's worth sucking in a few albatrosses? ;)
|
I didn't like it until I saw it, looks much better in the flesh.
|
Well, if intercooler effectiveness is becoming a trouble on the MY03, someone might want to bring Subaruīs attention to front mounted I/C before the scoop starts to block the driverīs view :D
|
I prefer my carbon fibre scoop! :D
