does anyone have a picture of a standard sump?

the reason I ask is that I dropped the sump on my my00 and there are plates around the oil pick up pipe.

I do not run slicks on track but have never seen the oil light come on.I am thinking of getting some coilovers and am currently looking at spa gauges, just to check.

Ive been advised to over fill my oils levels in my N plate WRX as the Jap ( or UK's even ) do not have baffles in the sump and this can cause "oil surge" when cornering at high speed.....

is this true......???

There are no sump baffles in a standard car but for normal road use this should not be an issue but for track I would ensure the oil was at the top level and with a strange car keep a very close eye on oil pressure especially under heavy g-force for the first few laps.

As Harvey mentions, I don't think this is an issue for road use, but on track it certainly is. If you are planning on using slicks then IMHO it would be foolish not to baffle your sump.

Whatever you do do not overfill the oil, this is just as bad as running low.

The SPA guages are a very good idea and one instrument can do oil temp and pressure.
There are plates around the pick up but these are not the baffles referred to. I can get a photo for a normal sump and one that is baffled but need a snail mail address so mail me per profile if you are still interested.
By the time the O/E pressure warning light comes on the damage is done as the switch operates at about 8 psi. Rodger Clark Motor Sport can do a replacement switch for £20 odd that works about 35psi or Burton Performance or Demon Tweeks can do an adjustable between 30-60 psi.
The red flashing warning light on the Spa can be set at any pressure.
The standard light position alerts me at 35 psi for low tick over pressure and the SPA is set at 70 psi so it should be off at 1000 to 1200 rpm but each engine will vary a little.

IIRC Harvey, the standard warning light operates at only 2.4psi !

Now I would hardly call that a warning ;)
