9.45 in the evening pouring rain local bobby on a pushbike with a speed camera stepping off the curb from the dark into my headlights wearing a black jacket and a reflective strip.
I swerved because I thought someone was going to walk across the road and I didn't see him until he jumped out on us.
My son had to be comforted it frightened the life out of him.
I have lodged an official complaint and wonder what lengths they will go to next.
I didn't know what it was until I turned the car around to confront him.
See if you can see him?

Pitch black I wanted a close up of him but wasn't sure of my rights.

I really can't see anything. Besides, its not usable in court as they only accept pictures from "film" cameras..

He is the blur under the third light that looks like a bollard.
I wasn't speeding so Im not worried I am just cheesed off I nearly hit him taking a snap of the car going the other way when he stepped off the curb.

A similar incident happen to a friend of mine outside Oakham in Rutland.

He was driving along minding his own business when some gimp with a speed gun jumped beside a car, lay across the bonnet of the car and pointed this gun at him.

With some quick thinking, he floored the go button, swerved across the other side of the road and promptly drove to the local police station and reported that there was a man pointing what looked like a semi-automatic gun a him.

"Ah", was the reply. "That would have been a speed trap". He got an apology and the speed trap exercise was quickly cut short. :D

We live in Northampton, where was this?

The French police don't use this sort of "gun" speed trap, as during trials, several cars actually went off the road taking evasive action---their police carry guns, of course!
Mind you, you'd be doing well to spot one of their traps, they're usually bl**dy well hidden.

City of London Police were doing this a couple of years ago at night a bobby would stand in the road side at night of dual carriage way in dark blue uniform laser gunning people as you came thru the tunnel by Blackfriers bridge. You in bright lite tunnel him in dark clothing outside in the dark if only HSE rules applied i would love to see the risk assement! Or met police by Batterse park on a Friday night bobby in dark blue standing IN bus lane at 9 pm when dark, laser gunning on coming trafic whilst collegue in high vis is hidden on pavement in entrance to park by bridge writting some thing down. Probbaly working out their performance bonus for the nights tax collection. This was about 400 metres away from where the estate agent was murdered a few months later when two guys tried to car jack his Audi as he parked up.
