I'll be picking up my first Scooby in a couple of weeks - a six-month-old STi Prodrive. Any tips for a hapless beginner........?

Take it easy, seriously thats the first bit of advice id give, these cars may seem to be indestructable and give lots of grip but when they go they do go :(
The suretrac diffs will feel funny to start with and the out and out pace may not seem that quick but it is quicker than you think ;) but just get to know the car (they are a little tail end twitchy by the way so watch for that ;) ie dont brake hard in corners or she will step out  )

- Don't be surprised at the amount of petrol you are going to go through. Accept it. You cannot fight it - she's thirsty :)

- Be prepared for the rush at 3800-4000rpm

- Objects in the rearview mirror get further and further away

- Be prepared for a lot of people lusting at your car

- Enjoy the gold wheels. They are beautiful...especially when just polished !

- Start thinking of the mods you are going to do (although with a Prodrive...maybe not that many).

- Be prepared to explain that the permanent smile on your face is not a result of prescribed drugs, just that you are a scooby owner.

- Be prepared for a whole bunch of boy racer idiots who will want to race you at every opportunity. Don't succumb to the urge, just smile like a smug ba5tard at them (it winds them up even more).

- Oh, there will be new additions to your vocabulary - "twisties", "all hell breaking loose" are 2 popular sayings, closely followed by "fuel surge" (new this week and sure to be come a classic)

- And "liftoff oversteer" which I experienced this morning for the first time

Above all, enjoy it to the max, drive safely, and welcome to the club, you are gonna *love* your STi Prodrive.

[Edited to add Liftoff Oversteer]

Be at one with the scoob my friend and you to could be a Jedi Knight :D

ianfergus0n 08 November 2002 09:19 PM

Also be careful with the MPG that's Mile Per Grin :D

As discusses in several threads... The grin muscles form a strange relationship with your right foot.

But dont fight it.... Use the force and stay away from the darkside

Or a Sith Lord. I am at one with my Scooby. I am learning to use it with great effect.

Just don't get cocky. Scoobs bite.

Your going to love it.

Lose the gold wheels and get a decat - careful on the warranty side tho.

Enjoy :D

Gold wheels rock - how many other cars can get away with them?

none :D

Skippyscoob 08 November 2002 10:12 PM

Rusty Festa - u sed dat rite, to paraphrase scooby_si :)

The STI scoob in blue, black or silver and the gold alloys look great any which way. Looked at 'em all close up...beauties, all of them. All look A1 with the gold alloys. No other car can carry 'em.

Only problem I have is that they need to be polished every week or so which is a bit of overhead...I've been waxing mine in an effort to keep the maintenance work down to a minimum and it's working well...bummer is, winter is settling in so I'm gonna have to live with a mucky scoob for longer than I want :(

Note to SkippyScoob - first thing you want to do (IMO) is get your new car sorted with the Swissol/Swizzol/WaxWizard treatment. Do this before winter sets in. Protect the car from the elements and give it a major shine as well ! No, this is not an advertisement, just something for you to consider. See the Blue Scooby Corner in the Member's Gallery for some pics http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/threa...D=19515&Page=1

What other car could carry it off? None. Definitely. We're the rogues of the road ! We got dispassion for fashion ! We're the renegades of gunk !

Gotta love yer scooby eh? :)
