I'm selling the Scoob in the near future (won't be able to afford to run it soon) and need to get another motor. I'll have £2k to spend (paying off the loan with the rest!) and I can't decide what would be the best car to get. I'd like a min 1.8 and it needs to be a medium - large car (hate small cars!) Not got any fixed ideas and open to suggestions!! HELP!!!! :D

MarkO 08 November 2002 10:17 AM

Don't sell the car! Keep it! ;) :p

red_dog104 08 November 2002 10:20 AM

I've gotta sell it!! Like i've said before, priorities!! I'm broody LOL!!!!

brickboy 08 November 2002 10:34 AM

Get a cat -- keep the Scoob ;):D Or take one of my kids ...

red_dog104 08 November 2002 11:11 AM

Come on...... Someone must have an idea of a decent family car that won't cost me as much as the scoob is?!?!?!

MarkO 08 November 2002 11:12 AM

2nd hand Mundano? Or a Vectra? Good workhorse cars, and cheap too. :D

red_dog104 08 November 2002 11:41 AM

So now my post has been moved, can anyone here help?!

Reffro 08 November 2002 12:16 PM

If you want to talk through all the options for free drop me a line to my e-mail (refropatton@hotmail.com) with your telephone number and I can bore you to death. There is so much to choose from it would be easier to talk it all through and go from there. Otherwise you'll just get a page full of suggestions, and might have no better idea than when you started with.

Cheers

I have mailed you! :)

Any news red_dog? I'm also thinking about getting a 2nd car for 2-5k. Options include:

- late mk2 Golf Driver (maybe too old now but I used to have one)
- Nissan Primera (98-99)
- Mondeo although I'm not sure I can bring myself to go with a Ford.
- Merc 190E (90-91) to be converted to LPG

Any other ideas? Must be reliable, economical, long lived, cheap to run... etc

AllanB 10 November 2002 09:21 AM

Fiat Tipo 16V, Primera , Citreon ZX , Mazda 323 , the older wedge shaped one( if you like pop up lights) or the 3 door if you can find one.

I bought my gf a ZX Volcane and its been very reliable and very cheap to run and its a good drive too.

The Mazda MX-3 V6 is very affordable (92 for £1.7k) and is a nice enough car.
I had one and it was the longest I have ever kept a car. :)

Where did you pick the Cavalier up from?

red_dog104 11 November 2002 11:11 AM

Auto Trader. It's in mint condition! Not got the status of the scoob but it's saved me and my other half £1,100 on insurance already and it'll cost less to run!!! I'm quite happy with it! :) Thanks for all your help. Gave me some ideas.
