Help!

My mate has just called me to say that the conrod has come
through the engine on his T plate wagon. Does anyone know
someone who deals in Subaru engines at a price that isn't
going to involve selling a limb?

Any help is most appreciated as he's rather distraught right
now as the cars defunct.

Cheers,
Simon.

sorry to hear of engine failure, but does happen quite commonly to scoobs, there are a few engine [s/hand] who may help, proces vary tremendously but say start around £1700 and go up, moreso than down.
2 numbers for you:
01902 636286

01902 494889

I know they are midlands, but you may have to drive around a bit to find a good unit.

P20SPD 07 November 2002 09:45 AM

David Wallis may be able to suggest someone for you. Wait for him to come along:D

Stuart J 07 November 2002 10:04 AM

Try dave at dpcc@bigfoot.com He had a spare in the garage & also knows a good engine dealer.
Also try enquiries@drjmotors.co.uk
Make sure its the right engine & year, some vary & have diff turbos etc.
While its out good time to check clutch etc.
unless new engine is well guaranteed fit a new cambelt as a matter of course, I would fit one regardless of any guarantee, if it goes bang you still have the hassle & labour cost of changing it again

Stuart

If you cant contact dave email me direct & I will give you his mobile number but I wont post it here

any idea of budget?

Is it a uk?

What speed was he doing at the time? over 100 and lifted off??

Recent service?

David

BigPicture 07 November 2002 10:43 AM

The guy's car is serviced to the letter. Drives sensibly, no hammering. Had the car since new, 90K on the clock.

Damn bad luck I think.

BigPicture 07 November 2002 10:44 AM

Opps... it's a UK car, totally standard.

BigPicture 07 November 2002 10:55 AM

Just had a call from him. He's had a lengthy talk with the dealer who are damn surprised that this has happened to the car. They've been in contact with Subaru UK, who have also expressed concern.

What they want is for the car to be brought in and stripped to find the cause, with Subaru footing 30% to 80% of the bill, depending on the reason for the fault.

P20SPD 07 November 2002 10:59 AM

There is a big difference between 30% and 80%. If they want to take it apart then they can pay for it IMHO, or the majority of it.

Cant believe they are surprised though. It happens alot. What fuel has he been running it on, and what year is it. Does it have the Prodive Performance Pack on it?

David_Wallis 07 November 2002 11:19 AM

which dealer is doing it?

David

BigPicture 07 November 2002 11:47 AM

He's been running 95RON, it's a (98)T plate Wagon.

There's two dealers he's been speaking with, one where he bought it from (sorry don't have the name just now) and Tileys of Bristol where it's been serviced for the past 40 odd thousand.

Jolly Green Monster 2 07 November 2002 12:17 PM

These guys Midland Impreza advertise engines from 950quid.. secondhand..

Never used them just looked at the site..

Subaru suck!

Their reply to the engine nightmare is that the car must have made some noise before it blew (which it didn't it just stopped dead), so you drove it while it was knackered. Here's a bill for £6000 in parts!

It's now off to Wincanton Motor Services as they're local and look to have a pretty good rep.

Jolly Green Monster 2 02 December 2002 11:01 PM

Take it up with someone higher than the dealer..

You cannot be expected to know what noises to listen for anyway..

I cannot understand how they can say that..

Take it up with IM?

JGM

Steve Whitehorn 02 December 2002 11:30 PM

Go to Grade A subaru for a recon engine, if you need one. They seem to be the most reputable breakers about.
Phone No and web page to be found on SIDC site

Cheers
Steve

David_Wallis 03 December 2002 07:23 PM

I know a lad at AJ motorsport called Alex Turner who knows his stuff on Imprezas and very reasonable, based in Sowerby Bridge, his mobile is 07971 375698

BigPicture 04 December 2002 11:51 AM

Smile Mr Wallis! I've replied!

The dealer is called Vale Motors.

I've passed this forum link onto my mate so
that he can get in contact with people if
required.

Thanks.

Scoobybits 04 December 2002 11:56 AM

P1Fanatic 04 December 2002 03:20 PM

Posts like this make me think extending my warranty for 2 years for a measly £450 is well worth it.
