The boost has now dropped to 4 psi, plenty of 'check engine' light and sevire stuttering.
Is the end near? :(

I would get it in and checked asap cant be good running it in that condition.

"safemode" boost is 5ish psi in a legacy. The ecu will put it in safe mode if it detects a serious fault

The best thing to do is connect the black diagnostic connectors and read the fault codes. On the legacy, you need to remove the trim panel that goes accros the dash under the steering column.

The procedure and codes can be found here:

And if you post the results on scoobynet, I am sure someone can point you in the right direction before you go to a dealer.

Okay, just read the other thread, and seen that david has done the ecu check thing.

I've had a similar problem with my car (legacy) in the past. Not sure what was causing it. I do think that if you drag the car along on idle and the ecu can't keep the idle speed at it's normal level, it logs a fault. I've had this a couple of times after sitting in traffic, so it's the only thing I can think of.

If the ecu does think there is a problem with the coolant temp sensor (code 21) it will do strange things. I may keep the cold start fuel enrichment going, which is going to make it run a little strangely to start with.

Also, when in safe mode, the boost isn't controlled, it's just down to the wastegate actuator, so will be affected by ambient conditions, which is why you're probably just seeing 4psi instead of 5.
