Just wondering if anyone in the UK has come across such a car?

I currently have a MY98 UK Impreza Turbo and I'm thinking of a part-ex for a MY00 Impreza Turbo GT from a dealer. I've never seen one of these before? Anyone know anything about them?

I'm thinking that maybe they were only sold in the Irish market but I'm unsure.

Any info on this car appreciated

Gavin :)

the GT is sold in europe,so it could be a euro import, although when i bought mine it didnt have the badge!
dont know if they are sold as GT in ireland though.

The South Africans got the GT as well (now get the WRX as we do) basically the same as a UK spec except they use to get a piggybacked unichip fitted to adapt teh ECU to the lower RON fuel they had.

This is the GT Series II probably which is across Europe not just Ireland, but it is a limited edition model which basically is like an RB5.

Nice model to get, as I say very limited edition with a few extras like air-con, alacantra seats etc etc.

The dealer is looking for €25000 for the car and wants €6500 along with my MY98 for it. The car GT is a MY00 with 40K on the clock and has a few extras but no air con :(

I haven't seen the car yet as its a 3 hour drive from where I live but I'm tempted to have a look.

Gavin,

The first limied edition in ireland was the series McCrea in 96, then came the GT in 97 which only came in black had air con and some red on seats. This car was called the Catalunya in England.
Next in 98 came the GT555 which was sonic blue and again came with air con and the standard 16" wheels in gold, this car was called the Terzo in England.
In 99 came the GT series 11 with blue alcantara interior, air con, steel blue colour and the first few came with the prodrive WR boot spoiler. This car was called the RB5 in England. This car came with the option of the WR package in England which we did not get.
Hope that helps.

p.s there was no limited edition in 00 unless a few GT11s were registered late. Some dealers might call the standard turbo a GT.
I owned a GT11 for 3 years and loved it,sorry I sold it now! bloody insurance and scumbags trying to rob it.

So your saying that if the car is a proper GT it should be the same colour as an RB5? Because I know this car isn't. This car is light blue. Not sure of the correct name, sonic blue or mica blue?

The car doesn't have air con either. Like I said I haven't seen it, just been talking to the dealer on the phone. He did mention that it had half leather seats or something.

Looks like it could be a standard turbo dressed up as something it isn't. :(

I suppose the only way to find out is to go and have a look at it.

Cheers

Gavin,
The car is more than likely a standard Turbo, hes just calling it a GT.In Europe the standard turbo is called a GT,in England and Ireland its an impreza 2000awd Turbo.

Either way its a nice car, but the GTII is in steel blue otherwise known as gun coloured grey - identical to the RB5.

Id have a test drive anyway, can think of worse ways to spend an afternoon travelling to see.

Price is normal for a dealer, but a bit steep. As you are trading your MY98 you wont have much leverage, unless you sell privately. MY99 of the GTII can go for as little as €19000 privately.

Let us know how you get on!

(BTW I was thinking of a MY00 in Feb, private sale. Guy wanted €27000 for it - glad I didnt go for it now)

Gibbo,

So are we agreed that this car is probably just a standard MY00 Impreza Turbo 2000 and not a GT as advertised? Which as you say isn't a bad thing.

I would have thought that €25000 isn't too bad for a MY00 (depending on condition of course). Just for comparison, a MY00 bought privately from England costs around £12000 stg. Convert this into € and it works out at around €18800. The VRT duty on a MY00 which has to be paid to the customs to import the car is €6300. This works out at €25100.

The only area where I might be let down is if I sold my car privately I'd probably get more for it than trading it in. But then you have all the hassle of advertising it, time wasters/tyre kickers looking at it who aren't interested in it at all but just want to take it for a spin etc.

I may take a trip to look at it next week.

Cheers

Gavin :)

I Got MY00 from the netherlands and I'm sure the invoice said it was a Impreza GT, same as uk spec which is called a impreza turbo 2000.

I have seen a silver T REG 2.0 turbo LHD on the trader, do you pay extra on your premium for them or not?

John
