frisby 06 November 2002 01:49 PM

Lee,

The red DI is the 130. I would presume the red I is the 115, can't you check off the log book?

Sorry but that is slightly wrong.

It all depends on the Registration year, but it goes likes this basically.

All silver TDI is a 90bhp TDi
TDI with red 'I' is a 110bhp TDi
TDI with a red 'DI' can be either a 115bhp or 130bhp PD TDi. The 115bhp engine came in breifly in 2000, whilst the 130bhp was being readied.
All red TDI is a 150bhp PD TDi. But all UK cars have been sold as GTI's so should not have that badge. The continental cars though were badged with all red TDI.

There are also now 100bhp PD TDi engines available but I don't know how these are badged, but these have only been available for a year or so.

My 150hp PD has

GTi

on the back. Silver GT, red i

Reffro 06 November 2002 03:57 PM

That's right. GTI's are differentiated by having either an all silver/chrome GTI badge for the 1.8/2.0 n/a engines. The 1.8 petrol turbo and 1.9 PD 150 bhp diesel turbo have GTI badges with a red 'I'.

They stopped making the 90, 110 and 115 versions and brought out the 100, 130, 150.
All silver - 100
Red I 130
Red DI 150

My "51" plate TDi has red DI on it and its 115bhp.

My mother in law had a 100 bhp TDI PD estate, red D and I

Our Sharan 115 has the same badges (red D and I), best way to check is the build sticker, the PS number indicates the power output, not sure of the translation to BHP, will find out.

Not sure why they dont use the 130 in the Sharan though, would make sense considering the size of it ?

My P1 is well used to living with a Golf TDi (see above) ... so it won't be lonely when it's yours:D

Had any more thoughts? Price could well be keener now!

Still waiting to try one Martin! Hoping for access next week....

Just to confuse things further, I think it is possible to have them debadged or the red lettering changed to silver. This certainly happens on the petrol versions - neighbour of mine has just got a 1.8T (petrol) which should have a red 'i' - but his was changed to silver (confused - you should be :) )

I'd checked the log book / chassis number to be certain.
