P1 is an STiV TypeR. ECU has, apparently, got a slightly improved knock correction over the Jap ECU to cope with UK fuel but the car is essentially an import (with all the toys taken off :)).

Edited to say that the P1 manual specifically states that the car is to be run on SUL as a minimum.

Just had my P1 Tek 3ed by Bob and Branco at BRD, Bob also did a very professional job fitting a knock link and Sti boost gauge - cheers chaps a great job and a pleasure to meet you.The car pulls like a train now all the way through the rev range, 1.0 bar by 3000revs, 1.3odd held above there until taper, previous peak was 0.9 bar!.Zero det using cans.

It currently has standard internals and retains the TMIC. Mods are full decat (SS), HKS panel filter, uprated fuel pump, runs on Optimax plus 80mil NF a tank. Haven't put it on a rolling road yet but will at some point soon. Guessing at around the 300 mark in both power and torque, although there is a P1 for sale on here, that BRD also did, that ran 317bhp with just addition of induction kit over my spec and that was with a leak from the O ring - so should be more.

FMIC and induction kit to come at some point.:D

LOL

hypoluxa, I assume you are talking about the datalogging we did last year ???

I think we concluded that 'something' was a little different in the map as we saw much less ignition correction on the P1 than the other two cars.

I can tell you now its pretty hard trying to watch a select monitor on somebodies lap whilst driving ;)

I'll have one of these +50bhp exhausts too please. I guess it depends where you run your car. PE gave me 317bhp (Remember Trout ??? ;) ) and Nobels in chesterfield gave me 292bhp. Real power ??? haven't got a bloody clue

Ian.

Anyone modded a p1 heavily i.e Fmic ,gems,motec,link,headers,turbo,induction,

If so how much difference was there to the car ,any problems and what sort of figures did you get.

The reason im asking is there are a few big boys on here who have got for example,

Sti 5 , link or gems,Fmic,full de-cat,induction,headers, and get figures like 340 bhp,320 lbs

How can the best part of £4-5k for 50 bhp / 40 lbs be worth it.

Im not against it because ive already been down that road before.

Or is it the bug that we all get that you just want more and more.:D

Richard............

Katana 02 November 2002 08:35 PM

I doubt anyone would buy Gem, Motec and Link. They'd normally buy one of the three as you only need 1 ECU per car. :p

Oh, ask Rich300, he's got a modded one (allegedly or probably just to scare me for our next race).

Pavlo 02 November 2002 08:43 PM

standard P1 is probably less than 276hp on UK fuel.

remap can also give improvements in low down torque, turbo spool up, widen power band for better track charactristics etc etc.

not just about the peak numbers

paul

R.B 02 November 2002 09:34 PM

Katana i know you only have 1 x ecu as i said in my thread ive been down this road before.

Pavlo a de-cat P1 is around 290 ish.

Katana 02 November 2002 09:37 PM

I'm just kidding mate. :D

hypoluxa 02 November 2002 09:56 PM

I know of one supplier in the midlands that fitted a decat exhaust and Motec ecu to a P1.... and actually lost him power

Now thats value for money ;)

Pavlo 02 November 2002 10:46 PM

main thing is the turbo and injectors

Some are running std internals, decat, hybrid turbo and a TEK 3 remap for about 340hp.

FMIC means consistant and reliable power, paticularly for the track.

Mappable ecu means mild anti-lag can be used, confident people can map it themselves.

Law of diminishing returns, the same can be said of the last classic WRXs as they were rated at 276hp (100ron) but without the forged pistons, bigger I/C cams etc etc.

Having said that, there are are number of STIVs with more like 360hp.

Paul

LG John 02 November 2002 11:22 PM

How do you get that the P1 will have less on UK fuel.....hello...its a UK car :D

I'd guess you'll need SUL for the full bag of horses but its not like an import as far as I'm aware.

ChristianR 03 November 2002 12:02 AM

I guess you could say I hard tuned my STI IV Type-R coupe :D

Pavlo 03 November 2002 12:02 AM

The P1 is based on an STI V, which is 280ps engine on 100ron fuel.

P1 is fitted with Broquet, which may help, or not. Prodrive reakon it runs something like 2degrees less advance than a jap car on jap fuel, so it will loose power.

If you put a decat on however, there is a good chance you'll get that advance back, but on a jap car with 100ron you'd still be ahead.

I know some cars make more on certain rolling roads etc, but as a standard car you're looking at more like 270hp than 280hp. Worth noting that the STI7 uk has 265hp compared to 276hp for it's Japanese cousin.

paul

hypoluxa 03 November 2002 12:51 AM

I think its easier to describe a P1 as a STI5 saloon with a 2 door Type R bodyshell.

Did some datalogging on a couple of V5 Type Rs and a P1 a while ago... iirc we saw 1 degree more maximum advance from both the Type Rs.

Adam M 03 November 2002 10:25 AM

regardless of nomenclature, it doesnt cost 5 or 6k to get 350bhp.

assuming standard injectors at 440cc will do you for over 350 with uprated fuel pump.

all you need:

fuel pump (preferably lateral performance one) £150??

fmic? many to choose from £1000

remap or new ecu - again many options £750 to £1500 for bare minimum.

turbo (again preferbaly a hybrid again speak to lateral) circa £1000 but a vf22 would do you and can be found for less like £800.

best case scenario

total = £2700 plus fitting labour which yo could do yourself, but call it £300.

£3k for an extra 70bhp or 25% increase is damn good going, considering price of ppp and what you get for it.

ChristianR 03 November 2002 11:34 AM

it will cost more than 300pounds in labour to get that stuff fitted.

Katana 03 November 2002 12:32 PM

If you or a mate are mechanically minded, 300 quid would cover a night out in the clubs after a good day's work on the car.

Pavlo 03 November 2002 02:13 PM

Hypoluxa, the difference I'm talking about is what would happen if you ran the STI on 100ron, and the p1 on 97ron. Think it would be more than just a degree.

The base maps are the same, but the p1 has high maximum retard on the knock correction map.

paul

hypoluxa 03 November 2002 03:05 PM

I agree Paul if boost is kept the same. What I should have mentioned was that we where seeing up to 5 degrees correction on the STIs. Max correction on the P1 was 1 degree. All cars had 97 + Millers, induction + full exhausts, the runs were all done in the same hour.

I know its not very scientific but these figures would lead me to believe that the base map on a P1 is different.?

Adam, you forgot the exhaust/air filter.

R.B 03 November 2002 07:18 PM

Is there any P1 modders out there then.

Trout... 04 November 2002 05:07 PM

It does make a big difference, especially mid range - at the most recent rolling road day my car (STi V) made over 300bhp at 5250, it was running well at the top end due to trying a new filter that did not work - but overall it is much quicker.

This is borne out by experience on track where it is much more lively and passes most standard P1s fairly easily ion the straights - (and I am relying on power not driver skill ;))

Was it worth it? Yes if you enjoy playing...

...could I go back to a standard Sti/P1? No, they feel significantly slower on the road.

Trout :D

PS Link, FMIC, Hybid turbo, Injectors, pump, etc, etc

R.B 04 November 2002 09:53 PM

Thanks for all your replies everyone, your views are interesting but there must be more P1`s out there and yes i know the sti5 is more or less the same :D

Trout... 04 November 2002 10:32 PM

PS People are slightly less likely to have tuned P1s,

first of all due to warranty,

secondly due to the fact that people who have tuned P1s are less likely to admit to it to protect their warranty,

and finally (flame suit mode on) Sti owners are more likely to have a propensity to tune an Sti as they are bought by a different market segment to the P1.

Trout :D

Rich, done a few interesting things to mine now. Mail me off line if you want to 'chat'

scoobyboy/p1 05 November 2002 09:34 AM

just had a centre de catt + a bak box fitted to mine p1. its now 300bhp & alot quicker. planin a tsl downpipe next which sud make it run at about 320/330bhp. thats 50bhp more then a stardard p1 all 4 £600, well worth it. if wanted 2 go stuidly fast think id do the injectors next or the remapin.

Attu 05 November 2002 10:27 AM

scoobyboy/p1 have you had it on a rolling road ?? 300bhp from a centre de catt + a back box seems alot? at a recent session at John Noble's the p1's wernt pushing out anything like that power and im sure they had full decats ...i could be wrong.
And FatBoy has had a Tek 3 fitted (i presume its got a full decat as well) and he expects to get 300bhp

Andy

Fat Boy 05 November 2002 10:34 AM

Yep it has a full decat,100 ron fuel, fuel pump, Tek 3 etc.. however the 300 is a conservative guess. Like I said there is a P1 for sale on here with same spec as mine except he has an induction kit and he was making 317bhp with a leak ie it should be higher when the O ring was fixed. Bob Rawle seemed to imply to me that a P1, or Vf28 turbo anyway, plus Tek 3, plus induction kit, fuel pump, ideally FMIC and right fuel could run up to 340-350. So working backwards I was guessing at 300ish, maybe 315 if I'm lucky. Whatever it has it feels good now. Never been on a rolling road, but will try and sort one out soon.

R.B 05 November 2002 12:07 PM

Scoobyboy p1 i have a full de-cat and filter already and at the last RR-Day it only pushed 289bhp / 270lbs with a very small missfire.

P1`s only push around 290-300 max with a full de-cat+filter ?

Gridlock Mikey 05 November 2002 02:47 PM
