Please help I am going to order my first uk scooby this saturday but cant decide on the colour has anyone got any suggestions on which colour looks best

JohnS 15 February 2000 02:59 PM

Which colour do you think looks best ?

That's the one you should go for!!!

Do you want to be one of many (buy the dark blue metallic or dark green), or one of very few (buy white or the new red mica) ?

grief 15 February 2000 05:11 PM

Haven't you looked at the brochure ?

I think SUK favour the dark or deep blue mica judging from the MY99 cover. So does the SIDC club rules booklet, and Pete Croney. It's certainly smart looking, but a pain to keep clean.

DazW 15 February 2000 05:13 PM

Just don't get black!!!

Blow Dog 15 February 2000 05:15 PM

Be completely original and go for the gorgeous new Mica Red. Lovely colour.

What's wrong with black.... mines black... and she's wonderful....

Red is too aggressive, everyone has blue and everyone else has green ... my first Impreza was white and it looked very nice in white...
but I only got white because I couldn't get black..... I like black....

grief 15 February 2000 05:55 PM

...like my men.... http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Penni Whitehead 15 February 2000 05:57 PM

....that's another fine mess you've got me into Stanley....!!!!

grief 15 February 2000 06:02 PM

Sorry, couldn't resist http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Jake 15 February 2000 06:39 PM

But they dont do black or am i totally wrong

Dave Thornton 15 February 2000 06:47 PM

Black is a Jap import only colour (except the ltd edition Catalunya in 1997). Don't go for white - when it comes to sell, you'll lose 5-10% on your resale value.

Jake 15 February 2000 06:59 PM

What about silver?

PeteT 15 February 2000 07:02 PM

If you import one from Holland you can have the oh so desirable Sonic Blue.(oh and save 6 grand as well)!

RON 15 February 2000 07:04 PM

Jake
you say you're going to order one, are you expecting to wait or do you want it asap? if you do then Vales in Wincanton Somerset had (at the weekend) a Red Mica, Green Mica and a silver one for immediate delivery. The y are all standard but they are able to add options if you want something
Their tel no is 01963 34034
I get mine from them on March 1st Cant wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've got silver. Looks pretty good and is highly visible, especially when freshly washed & polished.

Only problem is it always reminds me of the metallic silver Datsun 180B (twin carbs) I had when I was 17 . . .

I need the 4 month delivery time to save the ££££££ to pay for it!, I think I am going for silver because the white isnt good for resale and the blue is a nightmare to clean and red is to aggressive.

LOOK HERE MY RED SCOOBY IS NOT AGGRESSIVE OKAY !!!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Actually I liked reddish blue but they stopped making it a couple of months before delivery. I had red instead, the new mica red looks different. Have you had a look at the subaru uk website.

cheers

DazW 16 February 2000 10:50 AM

Sorry Penni, but black is such a pain in the RS to keep clean !

Penni Whitehead 16 February 2000 01:10 PM

I had one of those Datsuns many moons ago, it was silver - guess what ! - I painted it black....

Daz may I please send you a picture of my wonderfully beautiful BLACK Impreza complete with Colgate 'pings'

All cars are a pain to keep clean particularly in this weather... Mine is also the Catalunia black from 97 - but she's a 99 WRX import.

My first one was white and I did NOT lose money on the sale after 18 months - so sorry
it's like everything - if someone wants something they'll pay for it.

aziz 16 February 2000 05:19 PM

Yes indeed be one of the few , go for white

it is bright , easy to repair and looks great

with the black body parts as well as smoked

lenses.

Good luck

AlexM 16 February 2000 05:26 PM

Ok, so there are loads of silver cars around, and I think it was *THE* colour of '98 so it may a bit too common for some.

There are good reasons though - it hides the dirt brilliantly, and you can't see all of those horrible swirl marks in the lacquer coat like you do with DBM.

It also doesn't fade over time like most red paints and is perhaps more damage resistant - I haven't picked up a single stone chip in 18 months, which is better than most by all accounts.

Cheers,

Alex

GaryC 16 February 2000 06:15 PM

Normal (flat) red does look more aggresive, but the new mica red is nice - a new neighbour has just got a red mica one, and it does 'classy' and definitely not aggressive - but change the MY00 wheels!!

That being said, still prefer my DBM, especially with gold 17" OZs and new clear indicators!!!

Silver has got to be the best colour(i've ordered mine from gertjan, april arrive soon).
I've got a 14 year old astra gte at moment in silver, and the dirt just falls off (with a little persausion), ware and tear wise the only place that the paint has damaged is on the wing mirrors, so silver does last.

Mine is on order in Silver. Why? The only solid you can get is white, a sod to clean but can be good at getting people out of the way cos they think you could be police (had a white Cortina 18 years ago - people moved over 'just in case')! I have had enough red cars over recent years, in danger of becoming predictable. Green is for farmers (flame suit on). Blue is just too popular it seems and I can't afford the gold alloys to complete the look! That leaves silver. Never had a silver car before, I think it looks quite good and perhaps a bit less of a 'Colin/Richard' copy.

In case I upset anyone - I do like the green really . . . .

. . . especially on Foresters, Discoveries and Range Rovers! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/tongue.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/tongue.gif

Red Mica, its the dogs

Fullonloon 17 February 2000 04:31 PM

I have a white STI type-R. I have only ever seen 1 other, and 1 STI-RA. I think its a good colour- looks good when its clean - and different than all the other common Scoobies. As for the re-sale value. I really dont think that the STI would be different because its white. Maybe with other cars - but not the STI. It looks good in white!

MorayMackenzie 17 February 2000 05:23 PM

There is a White Type R in Bristol, it looks like a beached whale/carlton at a distance.

Rally Blue is THE colour to have. Shame you don't seem to be able to get it these days. Sonic Blue (22b etc) seems pale by comparison. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Have to agree with Grubby, I have a Silver MY00 on order too...looks fantastic esp now the mirrors/door handles are colour-coded..

Not sure whether the dirt will fall off it though Ray - will be well pleased if it does though ! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif
